The version of this during the 2007 tour at The Catalyst is mind-blowing.

John Grant – Black Belt Lyrics

This is obviously directed at a person who is disingenuous, manipulative and full of themselves - but the narrator sees right through this BS, presumably after being in a painful relationship together. |

John Grant – Pale Green Ghosts Lyrics

A song of journey, of process of leaving something behind and moving onto something new - the last verse suggests it's about leaving home or the idea of home.
The 'pale green ghosts' are the large green highway signs which stand as sentries along the road, chronicling what has come before and what is yet to come. |

Steve Earle – Transcendental Blues Lyrics

I agree with lca05003 that this is about marriage.. but based on Steve's track record (he's been divorced and remarried 6 or 7 times), I think this is a blues riff about making the same mistakes over and over again and not being sure if this time it's the right one. |

Ryan Adams – Breakdown Into The Resolve Lyrics

This song really rocks.
It's a triumphant return to the Rock 'N Roll / Love Is Hell era with the Cardinals acting as the best backing band Adams has ever had. Listening to this makes me it hard to enjoy Easy Tiger because I wish this had been the album he put out then.. |
