These fit perfectly about a friend I have... the war inside himself between the idealism which believes that hope exists, and the realism that won't accept the existence of hope. Imo, pfinarffle has it right, though I would add one more note: (Cold) faces in disguise Not a trace of desire Narrator seems to be musing that he and the ex-lover put up the pretense that they don't care about each other anymore, though whether the other actually does or doesn't isn't clear. |
