I think this song is alot about a manipulating person who turns others against each other to get what he wants. It reminds me alot of teh U.S.A. show " Burn Notice", and for those familiar with it, it shows that lying and manipulation can be used for good. "If you cant get what you want well its all because of me" I think refers to that fact that the singer is on to who he is singing about too, and that he is resisting |

I understand the roots of your frustration, alot of ppl from near where I live (western PA) do see Cali as a magical beach wonderland. I think mainly its just a nice idea for people to have about a perfect paradise actually existing |

Looking at your explaination, your probably right, but i had a slightly different vuew. I thought about it being about California being captivating. It makes it sound like California is so atractive, and it just keeps calling you back, and teh pretty boys she called friends could have attributed to the vanity sterotyped to the region. I went to a leadership conference their, and know I want to go to colleg their soooooo bad ( im a high school senior) looking at your explaination and teh time in which th esong was written though, yours makes much more sense. |

I think the last stanza invloving the desk is a reference to the often heated relationship between soldiers and politicians. I choose to belive that he is saying "hide behind your desks" because from this viewpoint the politicians know very little about the situations that soldiers must enter, and the effects of war on the soldiers, and then acts like cowards when they have to answer for it, hence "you can cry teacher come help me" is not meant literally, but symbolically. As a side note, I dont think all politicians are cowards, I just think thats is what the song is saying. |
