Chris Daughtry – September Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's actually about a summer romance that didn't last forever, but the guy still remembers and is reflecting on how it was all worth it even though it's over now. It sounds like they want it to work, but it can't. They "reach for something that's already gone", but they're in different places literally and in life. "Yeah we knew we had to leave this town, but we never knew when and we never knew how we would end up here the way we are." The way they are is apart leading separate lives and missing each other, or at least I think so because the way he is reflecting on all the memories and the way the background music sounds give off the vibe of a sad song. Even though they miss each other, summer is over, and they are in different places, which means they have to move on. The only thing left is the memories and knowing it was all worth it.

For me personally, this song reminds me of a guy I was never in a relationship with, but I liked him a lot, loved him even. He's my neighbor. I'm a year older than him, so I had to leave for college, and I always knew my time to reach for whatever we had would run out...it's a long story (long as in years long), and supposedly I never meant anything to him, and he ended up breaking my heart senior year...but I think of those sweet middle school memories when I hear this song. "The years go by and time just seems to fly, but the memories remain" is so true. Maybe it was worth it even though nothing really happened and nothing ever will. I thought I moved on this past year in college, but I came home, and the memories came back. It'll never be the same...I know that, and someday I'll move on for good and not just temporarily.

The main idea of this song is that when situations prevent a relationship from working out, all you have is the memories. You have to move on and accept that it was worth it even though it's over, and things will never be the same. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that whether it was a summer romance like in the song or a long, drawn out story like mine.
