The Weepies – Can't Go Back Now Lyrics 12 years ago
That's perfect. It doesn't work if he's singing it to her. It must be a child because of the lines "But in the end the only steps that matter Are the ones you take all by yourself". I always imagine my dad singing this to me.

Noah and the Whale – Second Lover Lyrics 13 years ago
I love this song. The metronome is the clicking of keyboard keys as he talks to her online. I think she already has a real-life partner but is cyber-cheating on him with this man and not taking it too seriously, but he has fallen in love with her. Then he realises that he will never actually meet her and that her heart belongs to someone else so he kills himself. That's not really a dramatic take on it because he does say 'It'll be the last thing that I ever do' and 'There's a man underground that will always love you.' I think that's what they meant by that.

Noah and the Whale – Jocasta Lyrics 13 years ago
Yeah it's Oedipus inspired. An oracle foresees that Oedipus will kill his father (King Laius) and then marry his mother (Jocasta). They sent a servant to leave it on the top of a hill so it could die 'Oh, let's leave it to the wolves Oh, their teeth turn it to food'. However, a shepherd adopts him and when he grows up, ends up having an argument with Laius (not knowing he is his father) and kills him. He marries Jocasta who has children with him but then kills herself 'Oh well it plays as they believed And for your husband you have grieved'. And yes, hannahelizabeth you were spot on with the moon reference too.

The Kinks – A Well Respected Man Lyrics 14 years ago
I totally disagree with your point that this song was used for a different effect in Juno.

This song is played when Bleeker is preparing for his morning run, and not only do the lyrics that you hear fit in with him, so does the rest of the song.

I think libertine_17 summed up the song pretty accurately; a man who has been brought up "respectably" and is expected to fit into the slot that society has fitted him in. However, his family hides secrets just as any family does, and at closer inspection his life isn't as perfect as it may seem.

In the film there is a moment when Juno says to Bleeker "you're, like, the coolest person I've ever met, and you don't even have to try, you know..."
Bleeker replies "I try really hard, actually"

The line in the song "'Cause he's dying to get at her" fits in with the film quote, because it shows how Bleeker has these feelings he hides from everybody else.

I think the people who chose the music to Juno did a fantastic job, as not only does it all keep to a similar style, all the lyrics fit in really well for all the different characters and scenes for which they are played :)
