i too agree with salyu (who happens to have a great username) this is easily one of my favorite b-sides--the lyrics are so positive and optimistic, in spite of the nervous breakdown elizabeth suffered during the recording of four calendar café (culminating in robin and elizabeth's eventual breakup). lucy would have been around three years old by this time, and i don't think it'd be much of a stretch to say that motherhood came to be elizabeth's source of contentment. |

| this is one of jamc's most brilliant songs, and one of my favorites of all time. i believe jim is singing about a relationship in which a girl is obviously toxic, yet he is just so madly devoted to her he accepts all of the pain and torment she causes, and has even come to relish it. still, as destructive as she is, her words seem to be able to rescue him when he's down, even if it's only momentary--hence, "happy when it rains." | |
