Epica – Living a Lie (The Embrace That Smothers Part VIII) Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with Kootje on the meaning about an unborn child, but I believe it is a little different. I heard that it is about a pregnant Islamic woman whose child is dead inside her, and this fact she believes. But either her husband or her priest refuses to let her go to a doctor to expell the baby, and she is forced to endure them praying to God to keep the baby alive while the mother sickens more and more everyday.

Mark both growls in mocking of the priest and religious authority, addressing the expecting mother. He tells her not to believe in what she feels, but to put all faith in his authority as a man of God. He also sings as himself, growling 'lies' at the facts the authority pushes forward. Simone on the other hand is the voice of the pregnant mother, who carries the doubt inside her that her baby is alive. She is either begging God to keep her baby alive or begging him to grant her the medical care she needs. She sings as hope as a desert running dry- the insistance of her husband or the priests in using her body as a vessel to keep a dead baby alive. The prayer in Latin can only be interpreted as the priest praying to God for the dead child that he believes is alive.

Epica – Unleashed Lyrics 14 years ago
In an interview, I believe Simone stated that this song is acually written in the point of view of an old man or woman, and how he or she hasn't lived their life to the fullest, and now alone and aged, they are regretting it. They long to return to youth to fullfill the dreams that they have carried within them for so long, and never fullfilled.
