Elton John – Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Lyrics 14 years ago
To me the song is the setup for the entire album. Once off the beaten path so to speak, life gets more real, more visceral and more gritty. Just about every other song on this album is about some death, junky, suicide or whore. More real. More painful.

I listened to this song repeatedly in my tweens in the 70s. Looking back I didn't have a clue about what all the lyrics were about.

Elton John – All The Girls Love Alice Lyrics 14 years ago
This was my favorite album of my tweener years. Alice, Saturday Night, Sweet Painted Lady. Its a beautiful, harsh dish of life. Very 70's a la Taxi Driver. I still love this album and this song. What I'm hearing in it now after the thousandth listen is more of the grit. Alice, Lesbian, maybe only by practice only. Meaning she's doing whatever you have to do to get by in the City. NYC. I picture her death on the subway being a heroin OD. I'm thinking the German movie 'Christian F' that came out around the same time around drugs and alienation in cold war Germany. Very harsh, gritty fluorescent bleak taste of life. Alice.

It could be about Alice Cooper. Or not. Thats the beauty of art. We can interpret however we want to.
