I think that by "Red Star" they mean a false hope or an unreachable dream... By "red" they could possibly mean that it's really strong, because the colour red usually symbolizes hard and strong things. Also, a red star is a symbol of communism. As metalspikes82 mentioned, they have said in an interview that some of their songs are about childhood vs adulthood... And actually it sounds like a war to me: Someone says, "It's my red star!" And someone else tells a group of people, "Steal it." They want to take the person's dream away from them, steal their red star. "It's my red star!" "They can't let go..." "It's my red star!" "Conceal it." "It's my red star..." And then something tragic happens. "Oh no." But actually just listen closely to the lyrics: Wasted education Celebrating imitation Misplaced admiration Speaking for a generation. Everyone is admiring the wrong people, they're imitating them, this has been happening a lot this generation. That's just how I see it. I know I might have gotten a lot of things wrong. |
