The first verse clearly depicts June 6, 1944 "The ocean is on fire, the sky turned dark again as the boats came in. And the beaches, streched out with soldiers, With their arms and guns it has just begun." This is a direct reference to storming the beaches of Normandy This song is all about every side of war, from the soldiers to the families and casualties of war. Great song |

Well he wrote this song for his brother Adam Cook (That's what the AC on his guitar stands for). Adam died of cancer in 2009 after an eleven year fight. To me this song talks about the joy he felt in winning american idol and pursuing a dream of being a famous musician, but he knows deep inside the lessons he has learned from his brother, fighting to the end, are what will help him to succeed in life. When he says "it reminds me of where I want to be, With you and you alone" i think is a reference to he and his brother being brothers, reflecting upon childhood memories and "the good times".
