The Foxboro Hot Tubs – 27th Ave. Shuffle Lyrics 14 years ago
Throughout this album, there are MANY references to other songs from the ear in which this album is meant to sound from (60-70). I.E in "alligator" the lines "Ya alligator, ya space-invader" uses the same rhyme and almost the same words as David Bowies "Moonage Daydream" which go "I'm an alligator, I'm a mama-papa coming for you/ I'm the space invader, I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you". So, it is not unlikely that this is a little reference to Cash. It's fun to try and pick out the refs in the other songs too, keep an eye out for them. :]

The Foxboro Hot Tubs – Red Tide Lyrics 14 years ago
"Red tide" is a term often used to describe Harmful Algal Blooms in marine coastal areas, as the dinoflagellate species involved in Harmful Algal Blooms are often red or brown, and tint the sea water to a reddish colour. Basically, algae in an ecosystem grows rapidly and sometimes, algal bloom events involving toxic or otherwise harmful phytoplankton occur thus creating the red or brown colour. Basically, the eco-system kind of destroys itself. Most importantly, if you eat any of the shellfish or sea life, you'll become very, very sick.

The Purple Heart is the oldest award that is still given to members of the U.S. military. It's awarded to those who have been injured or killed while in battle. However, it must also be noted that blood is purple while pumping inside the body and only turns red upon contact with oxygen (thats why bruises are purple) So, of course as long as the heart is alive and not in contact with oxygen, it too is purple. That helps clear up the last line of the first verse a bit...sort of. haha

I'm pretty sure this isn't about a woman period. haha I think it's about the subject Mary and her feeling depressed from the perspective of her lover/admirer. The character Mary seems to be (guessing form other songs) a headstrong woman who more than likely likes to go out and party and live care-free. Hence the dancehall line, as many a rock show and party can be held at a dancehall. It is in this time, when Mary is not out having fun that she realizes how "bleak" things can be. She is used to feeling nothing but neutral happiness and now, suddenly she is overwhelmed with regret and pain. Since she is not accustomed to these feelings, she is undecided as to whether this is "passion[real feeling and emotion]" or her introduction to self-destruction. the line "Taking on her town's impression" probably means that Mary is starting to believe what everyone in her town (i suspect full of people who don't accept her or understand her and thus judge her) thinks she is; a low life who will never amount to anything because all she does is party ect.

This is really long, and i could go on, but i will stop here for now. :]
