okay here is what this song means to me: its an extreme love that is impossible to be with or be without, its haunting. the line about being set apart is taking about how the 2 people in love were set apart by god because their love makes them feel more special then anything. "life is a test and I get bad marks" is that feeling of sucking at life in general and shows that he feels that this love is the only thing that feels right for him.
