Thrice – Answered Lyrics 14 years ago
your lyrics are wrong. dustin posted them on thrice.net, here they are:

ANSWERED
All that I have are questions;
So much is veiled in mystery.
But you are yourself the answer–
The only answer that I need.

My brokenness (I must confess)
Darkens all my thoughts, and hides your hands.
But questions fade before your face,
And I’m content that I may never understand.

Of what I spoke I did not know–
Of things too wonderful and high for me.
In ignorance I gave offense;
I had heard of you but now my eyes have seen.

The song is obviously about God and Dustin's relationship with him.

Thrice – The Earth Will Shake Lyrics 14 years ago
Although he drew off of Lewis's poem, it seems to me from the screaming portion of the song that the jail part is metaphorical of life here on this earth, and looking forward to the second coming of Christ and the freedom it will bring. That's just my take on it though.

Thrice – Like Moths To Flame Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a blatant retelling of Peter's betrayal from his point of view. The rooster crowing is the awful sound, Peter remembering the prophecy, etc. And for some reason people keep saying "Thrice is not a Christian band..." If you mean they are not on a Christian label and played on Christian radio stations then you are correct, they are in the secular, mainstream market. However, they, individually, are Christians and their music STRONGLY reflects that. Yes, some of their songs are not Biblically related, but what does that have to do with the price of chicken in China? To me, it would seem like if you were trying to put a message out there via music...it would make more sense to do it in the secular market, where you will reach all types of people and not just minister to the people who already share your beliefs, ie, the Christian market. Astounding logic, isn't it?

Thrice – For Miles Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with tossed dwarf. To take it to the next level, in the first verse:

I know one day, all our scars will disappear, like the stars at dawn
And all of our pain, will fade away when morning comes
And on that day when we look backwards We will see, that everything is changed
And all of our trials, will be as milestones on the way

Dustin is talking about the second coming of Christ and how all pain will be behind us. And then in the second verse:

On that day all of the scales will swing to set all the wrongs to right
All our tears, and all of our fears will take to flight
But until then all of our scars will still remain, but we've learned that if we'll
Open the wounds and share them then soon they start to heal

He elaborates a little more about that day, and then its saying that until then this life is still going to suck, and we need to help each other through it.

"Weight of glory" like the CS Lewis work...and also its "Mesh of wood and wire" and not "mess."

Thrice – At The Last Lyrics 14 years ago
Yeah, it's definitely about a man getting to the end of his life...seeing death on the door step, and realizing he's wasted his life on meaningless things. I think, like others have said, Dustin is trying to say that people tend to think themselves good because they don't do the things considered the worst in man's eyes, when in reality they just lived for themselves and never helped or loved other people. The man gets to the end of his life and realizes he has wasted what God has given him, and he realizes he's waited too late. Dustin used the phrase "I am undone," which reminds me of a verse that Isaiah spoke when he realized how deep we were all in it: "Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the middle of a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts." Don't waste your life.

Thrice – In Exile Lyrics 14 years ago
FireSermon hit the nail on the head, I'm glad I didn't have to type all that out. To add to it as even more proof though, was his reference to Paul in Hebrews 13:14 "For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." Also, the New Testament refers to what Jesus accomplished in his death as him making all things new again. Other than that, FireSermon covered all the other bases. How could anyone read the line "My heart is filled with songs of forever" and not think he is directly referring to eternity...or forever.
