I have to agree with Kratos, on some level. "You never give me your money, you only give me your funny paper." You never give me real love or a generous love, the kind that thrives, instead you give me a currency that is empty. "I never give you my number, I only give you my situation" Meaning that, in response, I only give you a superficial breakdown of what is going on with life, rather than providing a way to communicate intimately or with real sharing. Both lines end with each party breaking down in the middle of negotiations. Meaning that neither can truly get to eachother because there is no sharing going on. It is a painful connection with both parties tending to their own pain and protecting themselves from more pain possiby brought about by the vulnerability of real sharing and trust. "Any jobber got the sack" again refers to this empty currency that is spiritually unfulflling or vapid. "The one sweet dream, and magic feeling" refer to the childlike hope that when that empty currency, although craved, is actually gone; that it is a revelation to realize that it is not the lifeblood that will perpetuate life decisions. When the money is gone, and you are truly empty of the empty currency, then it doesn't seem so valuable and you reach into the bag of real love to continue on. It is a breautiful thing. The childlike ending, with all good children go to heaven, is sarcastic, yet poignant. The notion is about as silly as the idea that money(empty currency) will make you happy or spiritually connected, but the author has been taught it at such a young age that he continues to use it for guidance, even though he despises the approach. It is part of him, and he is trying to evade it,so the only thing he can do is run to the next thing and hope he can do better. |
