James Morrison – You Give Me Something Lyrics 15 years ago
You want to stay with me in the morning
You only hold me when I sleep,
I was meant to tread the water
Now I've gotten in too deep,
For every piece of me that wants you
Another piece backs away.

first two lines have to do with his uncertainty, does she or doesn't she want him. second set of two refers to how he's liking her more than he intended to, maybe too much to be comfortable with hence the last two lines. he wants her but he's hesitant for whatever reason

You already waited up for hours
Just to spend a little time alone with me,
And I can say I've never bought you flowers
I can't work out what the mean,
I never thought that I'd love someone,
That was someone else's dream.

first two lines, her putting effort... she gives a lot to receive a little. second set is him not trying so much and giving his "valid reason" why. the last two are him being conflicted for loving her. she does things that guys would love, and he never dreamt of it (maybe he didn't want commitment).

But it might me a second too late,
And the words I could never say
Gonna come out anyway.

When he finally reaches out to her to let her know how he feels, he's worried he may be too late. whether he is late or not, he is going to end up telling her things he was never able to before (like when someone has always been too guarded to tell someone they love them, but finally the feeling is overwhelming and it comes out anyway)

I think the chorus is pretty straight forward. He's scared of the way he feels but he hopes she continues giving her love cause maybe one day he'll be able to reciprocate.

hope I did a good job, this is my first interpretation =)
