| That kind of sounds familiar. Something similar happened to me. But for me, part of the time I thought it was a game, part of the time I didn't. Part of the time I was sarcastic, sometimes sincere. I definitely got caught up in it all. So I take responsibility for my stupidity. I also don't think the people who did it to me ARE rotten and evil. I think she is really missing someone she loves deeply and she hopes he is doing well. She wants to make sure he is being loved and is feeling alright. She wants to check in to be sure he is well taken care of. I think this song is about true love and it is so sweet. She wants a sign that he is okay. I know how she feels. I think these lyrics are VERY meaningful. Chris Martin seems like an incredibly brilliant guy. I think he must put a great deal of thought into his lyrics. They aren't silly to me, at all. In fact, some of his songs "throw me off the edge" and I really can't listen to them because they make me so sad. This song hits me at a very personal level. I'll always look forward to more from Chris Martin. I'd never pass on an opportunity to see him play live. Even if you are dying to get your hands on any new album of his, I think it is well worth the wait. |

I was dreaming in my bed alone this morning and this song woke me up (on the alarm clock). I have seen John Hiatt sing it live twice and it gave me goosebumps. I thought it was interesting that I haven't been woken (is that correct English?) by an alarm for years and today (when I was really missing this man I love a lot) this song brought me out of my dream. |

| I think you are adorable, whoever YOU are. Somedays we all feel like we have lost the struggle, but fear not fighting gopher. In my crazy ass opinion you have many people who love you and care about you deeply. Maybe even ME. Well, if you must know the truth, FOR SURE me. Don't ever be paranoid about the "girl" you are talking about above. I am sure she loves you and truly, simply wants to see you happy. She probably isn't even a "girl" at all, and in fact, is aging rapidly and will soon look like a scary, rotten hag. Looks are fleeting. The love she carries around for you is not. Don't forget that. She is one hell of a great person and making the choice you are making is a difficult thing to do. But, it takes BALLS to do what you are doing. A fighting gopher with big balls, you are. This song makes me sad AND it makes me laugh. I believe the singer knows his love so very well. He definitely knows her better and/or differently than many people know her. They have shared time together and experienced love with each other and because of this, he has knowledge of her thoughts and her feelings (even when they are apart). He knows this because their hearts are forever connected. He is critical of her shallow, materialistic life, which was not the way she was raised. This part is pretty hilarious to me. But, she has most likely learned that money doesn't always bring happiness. I am sure she mourns his presence in her life for many reasons. I would guess that he brought something very real to her life and she misses that every day. He understands that her heart still bears a scar deep inside, because his does too. "Go and forget me forever" is comical to me, because clearly that will not happen. When you love someone like this, you know what's going on inside their head, because you are both going through the same thing, and you will always have love for each other. |

I completely agree with your thoughts about this song. This song has deep personal meaning in my life as I relate it to only one person. He is a love lost and he means so much to me. In my opinion, the lyrics "your stomach moved beneath your shirt", illustrates she was pregnant with the hopes, dreams and possibilities of their love. When this "pregnancy" or "seed" dies, the loss is immense. My experience and this song, both confirm for me "it is greater to have loved and lost than to never have loved before". The grieving process is different for everyone. While I know anger is a part of it, (and I have gone through that stage-a few times,) I particularly love this song for its absence. Reaching a point of acceptance and being thankful for the experience is crucial in order to move forward, unburdened by the loss. The person that I loved, will always be hugely important to me. Whatever it was we "shared" was a beautiful thing. |
