I would just like to take some time here to say that i am really sorry for what ever "christians" you have met in your life, but i believe those are the same people this song is talking about. Akissforjersey is actually a Christian band, and yes this song is talking about those very people you discuss. Only, not all Christians are like that, and our religion does not in any way condone that behavior. "And pews aren't quite as inviting as you portray, " "Put on your best", "With a swagger so easily seen", and most obviously "Its people like you that turn kids away from God" are all descripters of these kinds of people. People that proclaim to be Christians, dress up nicely for church, walk around their churches like the important, godly people they pretend to be, but at home yell and scream at their kids and wife, drunk. Just an example, but those kids get that view of what it means to be a Christian, yet by nomen Christian means to be like Christ. Christ was a lowly carpenter and rode in a donkey. These people persecute even other Christians because they don't dress or act a certain way, when they themselves are far from perfect "Rocks don't take kindly straight to my chest" (in Biblical times, stoning was an "acceptable" way to kill someone, say for their "religious" (usually political) reasons). Nowhere do you see Christ acting in such a manner. I am sure for being a "screamo" band these guys have been persecuted by "christians" because of how they sound, but they have a wonderful message they want to share with a word, in a way that can touch kids say traditional gospel cannot. I am really sorry that you have been hurt, but what you wrote up there is NOT by any stretch of the imagination what the Bible says. Christ said "Come to me all you broken", not all you perfect. God heals, if God's word is being spoken and it is not encouraging or healing, it is not God's word. Satan quote scripture to Jesus, warping it out of context to try and get Him to sin. I have been broken to the point where i thought the only escape was death, but i am here today because of a wonderful and awesome God. Religion is man's creation. The sacrifice you talk about is willing. I know from experience you cannot serve two master: sin and God. The "sacrifice" you talk about is willing, and a pleasure to do for my God. He doesn't make anyone do anything. We all have a choice. A very simple one. I hope God shows you that. And i just want to tell you He loves you so much, I almost cried when i read this i am sure He did as well. I am really sorry you were hurt but God is awesome, so awesome i cannot describe it in word. i really hope you get to meet him someday.
