I know this is about Buffalo but damn, I can so identify with this song. It's a masterpiece for the maladjusted.

Stevie Nicks – Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You Lyrics 15 years ago
Wow.

I learned more about Joe Walsh than Stevie Nicks here. I always loved this song (as a writer, never spring this song on any partner unless you damn well sure love them) but this adds a whole new dimension to the experience. Magnificent song, so tender and heartfelt and know I know why.

Neil Diamond – If You Know What I Mean Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm a big ND fan but this song always stands out for me as one of his best. Heart wrenching regret that conjures up several mental images. Neil's voice is somewhat echo'd here adding to the far away quality of the song. Rolling Stone always criticized ND as being too 'bombastic' but here in works magnificently. Whenever I hear this song I feeling pouring myself a scotch and lighting one up and I don't even smoke.

Dar Williams – Iowa (Traveling III) Lyrics 15 years ago
Regardless, this is one of the most beautiful and evocatively sad songs I have ever heard. Dar is one of the most underappreciated artists around. This was the first song I ever heard of hers and it hooked me for life.

Melissa Etheridge – Shriner's Park Lyrics 15 years ago
Ok let me be the first.

One of ME's most evocative and heart rending songs which, IMO, believe she wrote for every misfit soul who grew up misunderstood and carried their scars for the rest of their lives. This seems like two people who, as kids, were stuck in a similar situation but, it seems, one survived and one went to prison. But the narrator is in a prison as well. He/she remembers the past, wondering what became of the other. But in a larger sense, I think many people with difficult childhoods can identify with this song. I know I do. I love it, but it's always like a punch in the gut. An example of songwriting at it's finest.

The Waterboys – The Whole Of The Moon Lyrics 15 years ago
This is one of maybe three songs that I can remember the exact place I heard it first - Interstate 80 headed west toward Des Moines and it was on Sirius. I remember pulling off the road to find something to write the name and the group on a piece of paper.

I have rarely had such a visceral reaction to a song before but I was seriously moved by this and started getting more Waterboys songs. It"s totally bombastic but that's why I love it. A million images and interpretations go through my mind whenever I hear it. The trumpets and cannons are awesome.

CS Lewis, eh? What a tribute.
