She & Him – I Thought I Saw Your Face Today Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i have to agree with anna19cute, it made me cry too. i'm going through a similar situation right now and i wish i could be shaken out of it. i just want to be okay again. although, without incidents like these, beautiful songs and lyrics like these wouldn't be possible. ;) again, great interpretation. |
Phantogram – Mouthful of Diamonds Lyrics | 14 years ago |
can't get enough of this song! anyways..i think it's about an abusive relationship, where the girl's boyfriend is a drug addict or has some serious violent tendencies. the boyfriend kept telling the girl that he loves her and that he's going to change, knowing that wasn't true, she got fed up and left. |

Fiona Apple – The Way Things Are Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i have to agree with sarabear316.. with my take, i think it's a about a girl who's had many bad experiences with men. she's become used to the pain from all those jerks that it's become normal for her. it's become the familiar. the girl is in this transitional period where she wants to not only runaway from all the bad men, but the good guys too. since being treated like crap by guys has become normalized for her, her mind, body and heart rejects a good guy who treats her well. (from the first verse) she feels that at this stage, she needs to be alone until she kicks her bad habit (of dating toxic men), not by dating a good guy, but learning to love herself and believe that she's worthy of being loved. to her, things are better off this way. her friends and maybe past exes make fun of her and don't support this idea of hers. she reacts back by saying, you can tell me that i'm crazy for cutting myself off from love for awhile, but that's how it's going to be. |
The Kills – Sour Cherry Lyrics | 14 years ago |
hottest and most underrated song on the album. for me, it's about a friends with benefits relationship, where the girl feels totally underappreciated. he leaves her hanging all the time, doesn't answer her calls, doesn't pay much attention to her. he goes off and hooks up with other girls. this makes her believe that she's not worthy of his attention or time (being the sour cherry on his fruit stand, a penny in a diamond mine). shes unhappy about it and needs to get out of this mess, so she's telling herself to "get off the ride". |
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Soft Shock Lyrics | 14 years ago |
for some reason when i listen to the acoustic version, i could see audrey hepburn floating on a boat down a long lazy river, plucking her guitar and singing to this. kinda like in breakfast at tiffany's. anyways, i think this song is about a relationship that's been a total rollercoaster ride, and it's coming to an end. the singer isn't ready to give up yet but her boyfriend wants out ("it's a sharp shock to your soft side"). she suggests different ways of working it out every morning, noon and night..but he just rejects every idea and wants nothing more. so he basically shuts her off every time. (summer moon = the girl, catch your shuteye = the guy) she knows no matter how hard she holds onto him, he's leaving her. (what's the time, what's the place, gonna leave me out) she feels disappointed in her boyfriend because he don't want to work it out and disappointed in herself for not being good enough for him to be worth saving a relationship for. |
Rilo Kiley – The Frug Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i also think it's about a girl who really likes this guy but he has a girlfriend. she's trying to tell him that shewould be a better girlfriend to him by listing all these things she can do, ('i can hate your girl, i can tell you she's real pretty, i can take my clothes off/i can write a book, i can make some mac & cheese, etc'). basically telling him she's worth it. then she stops herself by saying she won't let herself fall in love with him because he's taken (i cannot fall in love, i'll never fall in love, i cannot fall in love). she also tells herself that she'll have to learn to be happy without him and that she can't cry over this guy ( 'i can do the frug/i can do the robocop' = silly dances that make you happy, 'i cannot do the smurf' = being blue or sad). in the end, she has to deal with it and move on despite her strong feelings for this guy. |
Fiona Apple – I Know Lyrics | 14 years ago |
for me, it's about a girl who's in love with her guy friend. they get along so well and have this amazing chemistry, but he's with someone else. i think the guy is also having relationship problems, but can't seem to break off things with his girlfriend. the girl listens to her guy friend with all his relationship problems, she's there for him and really cares about him. however, she can't tell him how she feels about him yet. she's waiting for him to realize that he loves her too and wants to be with her. talk about a love triangle. |
Kate Nash – Merry Happy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think she's looking back on a very long and serious relationship. all the good memories and the bad. as they were hitting a rough road, she wanted to work it out because she loved him so much but he gave up. she's realizing that, although she loved him and he didn't feel the same way in the end, she's learning that she can move on too, just like him. she realizes that there are loads of other things to look forward to and enjoy in life. |
Rilo Kiley – Always Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think i'm going to have to agree with classact714, but go a little further. it's about a girl and a guy who have been friends for a very long time and have amazing chemistry together. she realizes that she has always loved him and tries to give hints to tell him how she feels, but he's completely oblivious or he just doesn't want to give it a chance because he's afraid of losing their friendship ('I think that you could do so much better Those conventions are taking their toll on you'). she thinks that's what's keeping them from them getting together. and since he chooses to just remain friends than to have a relationship with her, he's always going to be haunted forever by the idea (the phantom) of finding true happiness with her. |
Rilo Kiley – Jenny, You're Barely Alive Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think it's about a girl who' looking for a way out because she's depressed about what's going on in her life. she distracts herself with whatever, alcohol, drugs, sex, etc to keep her from realizing how unhappy and lonely she is. she's looking for an escape for something better so she can actually live her life. |
Rilo Kiley – Portions for Foxes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this is song explains every single guy i've been with. i just end up always being their piece of meat (portion for foxes). i need to stop giving into those bad boys! |
Rilo Kiley – Glendora Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i love this song. i can relate to it so well, not just with one particular guy, but with all guys i've been with general. i always believe some guy's line, try to please them, where it amounts to nothing and i get crushed in the end. yet i keep following the same pattern with men. it's a vicious cycle that i fall into year after year. thanks rilo kiley for making this song :) |
