| curiously, my view of the whole overall tone of this song evolved over time. when i first heard it, i immediately assumed it was a beautiful, longing song about unrequited love, with the singer (chris martin, of course) passionately declaring he loves a woman so much he is willing to wait for all eternity for her. however, the more i listened, the more i noticed his rather bitter, nearly angry tone as he sang "i'll always be waiting for you" throughout the song. now, i believe chris martin feels resentful, frustrated, and bitter towards the woman he is in love with because, no matter what, she pays him no attention and doesn't even notice or care that he apparently even "changed" for her. it appears as though chris martin is at the very end of the line, and doesn't know what else to do because the woman he loves is fully aware how much he needs her, but she refuses to even "see" (this could be perceived to be literally, physically seen by her, but it's more likely that she doesn't notice or understand the depth as to how much he cares for her). a very complicated, confused, bitter, yet still yearning, song. | |

i really don't think it's quite as important to make a big fuss as to WHO miley wrote this about..the meaning in the song itself is pretty self-explanatory. "Well it's good to hear your voice I hope you're doing fine And if you ever wonder I'm lonely here tonight I'm lost here in this moment and time keeps slipping by And if I could have just one wish I'd have you by my side Well I try to live without you The tears fall from my eyes I'm alone and I feel empty God, I'm torn apart inside I look up at the stars Hoping you're doing the same Somehow I feel closer..." i'm glad miley is finally, in some of her songs at least, being more honest and relatable to REAL people. most of her singles (party in the usa, can't be tamed, etc) may be catchy, but they're very self-absorbed ("every guy everywhere just gives me mad attention..i always get a ten cause i'm built like that"?) and, all too often, obnoxious. i'm glad she's finally writing more mature & truthful songs about love and heartbreak. it makes her a TEENSY bit more respectable. now she just needs to change her wardrobe and overall outward image and she's on the right way to go! haha |

okay..don't get me wrong...i hate, hate, hate miley cyrus. but i can relate to this song, and i believe it's cheesy to an extent, but it's realistic and relatable. "I don't wanna change your mind 'Cause I accept you for everything you are And we'll be, stay here with me now I can't tell you what the future holds Or how to live All I know is what feels right Lights up my life again and again" i'm pretty sure most people who have ever been in love with someone can relate to that. despite their (and your) flaws, you are willing to accept everything that they are, because you care about them so much, and you know that you'll get through it all, both the good and the bad times, with "forgiveness and love". even if you aren't sure of what's going to happen in the future, all you know is that being with that person is the right thing to do. you might come back "again and again" to face that same decision: do i belong with you or not?, each time rediscovering that they "light up" your life every time they're in it. i really hate saying this, due to the fact that it's co-written by miley, but the lyrics to this song (the ones i mentioned above specifically) are quite beautiful. |

I can't listen to this song in public where there's other people around-I cry every time I hear it. I think everyone can relate to this song in one way or another at a certain point in your life. Where you've been waiting so long, and you're just so exhausted, you just want it all to be over. But thankfully, someone's there to rescue you. gorgeous song |

wow..one word...breathtaking. this song=the pure and simple form of LOVE. the crazy state of happiness that is so often hard to capture in today's songs. this song is just so incredibly personal, and i think anyone can relate to it. i think the relationship described here could be between bf/gf, parent/child, or even God/human. Seriously. this is definitely one of the top songs on their album transatlanticism. I LOVE YOU BEN GIBBARD!!!!!! |
