Placebo – Nancy Boy Lyrics 1 year ago
@[Cinnamon__Spider:45710] - most correct comment here.

I remember when it came out, I used to select on the pub juke box all the time.

I had a good idea of what he was on about, but as a heavy metal fan all my life, I couldn't get over how so very good this music was, and the fact that the lyrics were so racy to the religious freaks was cream on the top, even if, I am not gay.

The bass guitar is just that good.

@[ex77:37536] - The 'monkey' she has been promised all night during lady drinks refers to the 500 GBP the client would have agreed to.

Here: https://metro.co.uk/2018/01/10/much-pony-monkey-cockney-rhyming-slang-money-explained-7219427/

A 'monkey' is 500 quid, as we say.

And the 'fingers left on his hand' would refer to the typical Russian gangster client she is 'entertaining' that evening. A few of them really are missing fingers..

And I'm sure the love is as cold as you describe it.

However, everyone gets laid, and everyone gets paid. The world keeps on turning.

@[PLAS:37522] - not only that, look at the PRICE of music now. I had to goto a specialist shop to get this, and in 1990, that was 22.50 GBP, thank you, Sir.

I only made < 100GBP/week.

According to an inflation calculator, that CD would be 56.49 GBP today in mid 2021.

That'd be a 'no, thank you Sir' from me.

No wonder CD piracy / digital downloads took off...

For me this song is not so much the lyrics, but the whole flow of it - the punk feel, jumping right into lead, and layers of rhythm guitar here and there.

Wonderful.

@[BigE254:32128] Sir, unless you are independently wealthy, could you please do man-kind a favour, and immediatly start training to become a professional psychologist?

You are so correct - this month I am 20 years without the girl I was supposed to marry, and last night I drempt of her again (I hate that). So even though you know they are bad for you, and your state of mind, the heart never forgets. You just deal with it, hoping one day they will see 'sense', and change their ways.

Now THAT is true love.

You get a thumbs-up, because I heard this story somewhere else too.

It was breaking George's heart that the drummer wouldn't 'come around' and become openly gay, which sadly for George, wasn't the case. I'm happy to be wrong, but this makes it twice I've read this now.

in MY opinion, a lyric correction:

For people like Che or George Jackson or Malcolm X
Love was the prime mover of their struggle
That love cost them their lives, love coupled with IMMENSE pride
Love coupled with a IMMENSE pride
Give it to you on top, now

Ain't I glad I bought all those picture discs & VHS tapes, when I can get it all in SPADES on a well-known video site?

ANYWAY,

I LOVE the lyrics.

Especially;

Angel mercy, tears like rain
Hurt so good, can't feel no pain
Paint it black, drives me insane

- Me.

Forget the rap part...

This song is so 'airy', to be wonderful.

And it is SO about a stripper.

Need me to explain it? Just ask, but, so subtly, she lays it all out for us.

Love it.

The Commodores – Nightshift Lyrics 9 years ago
Growing up, originally thought this song was about infidelity, however, it was a tribute to two passed solo artists, whom both died in 1984, Jackie Wilson, and Marvin Gaye.

Interesting that the lyrics worked well in both guises I suppose.

Wonderful track though.

Yeah, kinda figured it was be speeding, or something semi-serious with regards to a moving violation.

I was living in the UK when this came out, and of course nobody there could help me with the meaning whatsoever, but I kinda got it.

I'm coming through.....!

How about Road Rash on the '3DO', way back in 1994! It was so cool, but the platform was a flop.

Anyway, I knew of Soundgarden before that, but I did remember the rock in the game...

Nice memories...

Well, I hardly think that is fair.

What were YOU listening to when you were 11yrs old? Anything better? What was that, Micky Mouse Disco?

I'm aware this albumn has been less than weel received in the UK, but whatever, it was good in it's day.

Styx – Heavy Metal Poisoning Lyrics 9 years ago
Quote:

The only backwards message I know of Styx inserting into a song is the very obvious reversal of Annuit Cœptis Novus Ordo Seclorum in the beginning of Heavy Metal Poisoning. This, contrary to the satanic facade that up-tight rock haters have given Styx means "God has been with us through our undertakings." Kinda cool.

Hope that helps, if 11yrs too late..

Stephen Stills – Love The One You're With Lyrics 11 years ago
You could find value in the fact that it sounds great, which after all, is what music is partially designed to do.

As for the meaning, well, yeah, you got me there, its all about promiscuity in my eyes too, and my heart goes out to the other gentleman who worked his 60+ hrs / week to find his wife 'loving the one she was with'.

Regardless, if you can't have the one you love, why not try someone else? See how it develops, of course if that can be done without stepping on anyone else's toes. I have a brother who will remain single for years, then find a semi attractive girl, that will fail after a couple of years, and it repeats. Me, I like having a partner, so if I can't get a supermodel, I just lower my standard, and have fun with the one I'm with... hope that doesn't offend anyone.... peace out.

The Smiths – Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before Lyrics 12 years ago
Yes, that's pretty much how I perceived it... I once had a girl, that forced me to be the envy of many, and people told blatant LIES about me, and sometimes her, to try to force the breakup. All malicious intent.

The 'stop me' part, was likely the painful outpouring he had due to this, and thus, he knew many had cried these feelings / words before, from many people.

The injury stuff, I'm not yet decided on, but the drinking part goes hand-in-hand with feeling this way.

Like the Great Bob Marley once said... no woman, no cry. Took me 24yrs to figure that out.

I give this song 9/10.

Suicidal Tendencies – Sorry?! Lyrics 12 years ago
For me this IS the best ST tune.

Anyway, he meets 'the one', and knows it, but she leaves him, possibly taking him for granted, and he is understandably distressed, but when she realises he is gone, tries to patch it up, he slams the phone down, as he can't cope with the pain anymore, and she commits suicide - something that he ponders 24/7, with deep regret and sorrow.

In the end he is forced to consider his own mortality, and what he might say, or do, if he could see her one more time.

Eddy Grant – War Party Lyrics 13 years ago
Surley about the apartheid days.

Their struggle with white-invaders, broken peace agreements, and their understandable will to come together and fight for their freedom. To which Eddie says 'everyone keeps inviting me to a war party' (protest / demonstration / retaliation), and he is tired of it all. 'Me no wanna go'.

'Heard it all before' broken promises... etc.

He walked out on stage with this as his first track in 2009, in Cape Town. Brilliant.

I was 11yrs old when I bought the albumn....wow how time flies...

Motörhead – Killed By Death Lyrics 13 years ago
I've had the pleasure of seeing Motorhead live - twice. Liverpool Royal Court, and Liverpool University.

And like the other poster has stated - Killed by Death is one of his finest moments. The leads are perfect, charging me with energy, almost forcing me to commit crime! :)

You've got to love Motorhead - it does what it says on the tin, so to speak.

You'll not find Lemmy with the San Fran Symphony.... like SellOUTtica. Oh I'd end it all then :)

The Knife – Neverland Lyrics 15 years ago
I believe this song is related to stippers, and the thoughts that they ponder during a dance.

I really do.

I should know, I know enough of 'em, and you eventually get into the psychology of them as the years pass by.

And it is kind of scary, "Am I going to make it home tonight", but ladies and gents, thats the truth of the world out there...

Michael Jackson indeed.........pffft!
