Regina Spektor – Call Them Brothers Lyrics 12 years ago
I love that Regina Spektor doesn't tell people what her songs are about, because she doesn't want to ruin the magic.

But, in 1961, families were separated completely by an arbitrary line drawn against communists: The Berlin Wall.

I think the shot may refer to Reagan's assassination attempt in 1981, years prior to his "Tear Down This Wall" speech in 1987. I'm not saying that the two events are necessarily related, as I am not a conspiracy theorist.

But the wall came down in 1989-90, and with it- the symbolic end of Communism.

Almost serendipitous is the correlation between the fall of the wall and Regina's family's arrival in the States.
Also her husband Jack Dishel cowrote it, so who knows how much of the awesome he brought to the table. <3

Lady GaGa – Beautiful, Dirty, Rich Lyrics 14 years ago
I LOVE THIS SONG! I think it's about not letting something as silly as a lack of funds keep you from partying your heart out. You just have to pretend to be rich to look it.

Regina Spektor – Laughing With Lyrics 15 years ago
i think this is not regina trying to define God or trying to prescribe to him any qualities or attributes. Which is good, because that would be "sinful..." hahaha

nor is she really criticizing anyone, except maybe the adherents to prosperity doctrine

This song is merely an honest observation about the duality in the idea of God and the relationship we have with Him, or It, or whatever you want to use.

Adele – Chasing Pavements Lyrics 15 years ago
chasing pavements is quite simple to interpret as a symbol.

pavement makes traveling easier and safer. and they really do end, but not for miles upon miles. they turn into dirt roads.
conversely, dirt roads eventually turn into paved roads.

and pavements always lead somewhere, just not necessarily in a time frame that is easy for you to handle. you could be traveling from minutes to years.

If you're going to be chasing pavements, you could be waiting a long time until you get to the place that you want to be. Or you could give up and miss out on the adventure to avoid the pain.

The best thing, i think, is that as you're chasing those pavements you could find something on the way that is a much better place to stay.

(I doubt that Adele meant for her "pathetic love song" to be analyzed so deeply, but there you go).
