August Burns Red – Existence Lyrics 13 years ago
I relate alot to the saying going something like: "I can't know everything, but I know what I don't know and that makes me wise"

now, if we put that on a person, you may interpret it as "I don't know exactly how I will react in certain situations but I sure as hell know how I won't react"

and I believe it's exactly that they're referring to - the untouchable principes of yourself - they define who you are.

Otep – House of Secrets Lyrics 13 years ago
@ windowchimp

"tower of babel" - obviously it's the penis

though another angle of this is the meaning this tower (a real tower, yes) has in various stories...
here's one i copied from wikipedia

Greek Apocalypse of Baruch
Third Apocalypse of Baruch (or 3 Baruch, c 2nd century), one of the pseudepigrapha, describes the just rewards of sinners and the righteous in the afterlife.[4] Among the sinners are those who instigated the Tower of Babel. In the account, Baruch is first taken (in a vision) to see the resting place of the souls of "those who built the tower of strife against God, and the Lord banished them." Next he is shown another place, and there, occupying the form of dogs,

in short: justice will be served :)

Slipknot – All Hope Is Gone Lyrics 14 years ago
The correct lyrics are (straight out the text book):

The state of the Nation - VIOLATION
a broken promise is as good as a LIE
The Hell is Humongous - The Devil's among us
and we will BURN if we won't unite
What are we conceding for our freedom?
Why does anybody think we need 'em?
I would rather FIGHT than let another DIE
We're the Problem, but we're also the Solution...

ALL HOPE IS GONE

If you want it, come and TAKE IT FROM ME
If you think you can, you STILL DON'T KNOW ME
Let me tell youman I SAID IT - I MEANT IT
And I will always have the right to defend it
50 SECONDS - 100 MURDERS
The Bill of Rights is a bill of sale
What will you do when your war is over?
What will you do when your system fails?

WE HAVE MADE THE PRESENT OBSOLETE
WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT DO YOU NEED?
WE'LL FIND A WAY... WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE
WE'VE SEEN THE FALL OF THE ELITE
BURY YOUR LIFE - TAKE YOUR DISEASE
WE'LL END THE WORLD... WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE

The Wretched are the Wounded
The Hungry starve to death
In a place where noone goes, the air itself is a final breath
So discontinue the Antiseptic Care Charade
As a cry of justice comes, a malignant fire fades

I am the Reason your Future suffers
I am the Hatred you won't embrace
I am the Worm of a pure gestation
I am the Remedy SPIT IN MY FACE
All your laws and rules are outdated
All your subjects are killing the kings
I could rattle off a million other reasons why
But does it matter when the only thing we love will die?

WE HAVE MADE THE PRESENT OBSOLETE
WHAT DO YOU WANT? WHAT DO YOU NEED?
WE'LL FIND A WAY... WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE
WE'VE SEEN THE FALL OF THE ELITE
BURY YOUR LIFE - TAKE YOUR DISEASE
WE'LL END THE WORLD... WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE
WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE

Now this is as exact as you can get them without buying the CD, every big letter is 100% according to the text book.

Basically this song describes everything that's wrong in the world. They mention the starving people, wars, environment and if you want, even the financial crisis to some degree (fall of the elite?).
Well, that's all from me.

Parkway Drive – Horizons Lyrics 15 years ago
I really like the post of Lets Rape Don Vito since dividing it up into those parts makes it alot easier to interpret.
In my opinion this song just describes the "travel through life" from part I when you're young with dreams and full of hope for the future, eager to start your life.

Then in part II you get involved with the society, which holds you back/discourage you from dreaming/wanting to change the world ("Your words, not worth the air. Your life, not worth its weight in flesh."), which forces you to become mainstream, just getting part of the system => not having an own opinion/no higher goals, not careing too much etc. ("Like a million before us, waiting to die. Like a billion before us, waiting to die."). Shortly stating that such a life isn't really a worthy life, since you're just "waiting to die".

Still in part II, the in my opinion most important lines come:
"We spend our lives wasting, as time eats us alive. The sun seems to have been falling ever since I can recall. The only sence of permanence in this dying world. Sit back and watch as time eats us alive. Everyone who knew me, Destined to die. The marks I left upon this world will wash away."
Making the interpretation before more understandable, though now you are a bit older again, really experiencing that nothing you do will change anything due to the state of the world.

Later in part III, death awaits. The most important phrase in this part is:
"With broken arms and hollow eyes, await our return to oblivion. Embrace our last empty horizon." whereas the first sentance just shows how "wing-clipped" you have been during your life, all that remains is your broken arms and hollow eyes (you don't clearly see what's happening around you and you can't do anything about it (because of your broken arms, as a metaphor)). I understand "our last empty horizon" as either 1. the hope for heaven or 2. as in: we can still change this development, but it has to be done NOW (it's our last OPEN (changeable) horizon).

Now I haven't mentioned all the contradictions stressing the meanings, like e.g. "The sun seems to have been rising ever since I can recall. Lending a sense of permanence to this lying world." and "The sun seems to have been falling ever since I can recall. The only sence of permanence in this dying world." (there are loads of them, I'm sure you noticed ;)

Personally I believe this to be one of pwd's best songs, both lyrical and instrumental and I hope my interpretation of it reviews it from a different pow.

Great work Sam420

Slipknot – .execute. Lyrics 15 years ago
The original speech by Spirow Agnew (taken from http://www.geocities.com/pacific_future/speech_agnew220570.html)

An Effete Corps of
Impudent Snobs

Houston, Texas, 22 May 1970
by Vice President Spiro Agnew

“Sometimes it appears that we’re reaching a period when our senses and our minds will no longer respond to moderate stimulation. We seem to be approaching an Age of The Gross. Persuasion through speeches and books is too often discarded for disruptive demonstrations aimed at bludgeoning the unconvinced into action.

The young – and by this I don’t mean by any stretch of the imagination all the young, but I’m talking about those who claim to speak for the young – at the zenith of physical power and sensitivity, overwhelm themselves with drugs and artificial stimulants. Subtly is lost and fine distinctions based on acute reasoning are carelessly ignored in a headlong jump to a predetermined conclusion.

Life is visceral, rather than intellectual. And the most visceral practitioners of life are those who characterise themselves as “intellectuals”. Truth to them is “revealed” rather than logically proved. And the principal infatuations of today revolve around the “Social Sciences”, those subjects which can accommodate any opinion and about which the most reckless conjecture cannot be discredited.

Education is being redefined at the demand of the uneducated to suit the ideas of the uneducated. The student now goes to college to proclaim, rather than to learn. The lessons of the past are ignored and obliterated in a contemporary antagonism known as the “generation gap.”

A spirit of national masochism prevails, encouraged by an effete corps of impudent snobs who characterize themselves as “intellectuals”.

Slipknot – Gematria (The Killing Name) Lyrics 15 years ago
Ok, I've done some Gematria research ad found a very good site (linked to at wikipedia) and one of the (rather many) possible synomyms for the gematria of "America" you can find this:

àçìöê : to remove, draw out, draw off, take off, withdraw, equip (for war),; arm for war, rescue, be rescued; (Qal) equipped (participle); (Niphal); to be equipped; to go equipped; to be armed; (Hiphil); to make strong, brace up; to invigorate; to draw off or out, withdraw; (Qal); to draw, draw off; to withdraw; (Niphal); to be delivered; to be saved; (Piel); to pull out, tear out; to rescue, deliver, set free; to take away, plunder

Source: The Bible Wheel
(http://esotericdelights.com/GematriaDictionary.aspx)

If I have understood it right, you just add the numeric value of each and every letter in a word. So I used the list (http://www.rodurago.de/en/index.php?site=correspondence&link=alphabet&rck=968315a721689aeb8b4b362663da5669)

As mentioned before, the synomymes to this value (149) are rather plenty and some would not correspond to the song itself.

Anyways, I think there's alot more to this Gematria than mentioned here, and the name of the song pretty much indicates you should use gematria on the "killing name" (= America).

Oh well... enough said, great song ^^

50 Cent – I Smell Pussy Lyrics 15 years ago
As to why I'm actually writing something to these so called lyrics is that I'm looking for lyrics released under the name "50 cent" that actually makes some kind of sense. A good tip is to try and summarize the lyrics, in this case you can't and the reason to that is: It's just a piece of crap with no sense whatsoever in it. It kinda starts off telling us how great 50 cent is at fucking women he doesn't care about. Then it goes on with pure bullshit.

Maybe 50's great talent and the answer to why he is so famous is because noone else, ever, would be able to think of such a shitload of crap put on paper. Anyways, I haven't been able to find a song of 50 having even the slightest meaning to it and I would be glad if someone here could give me some advice where I could find a song that has. Please think of what you're listening to and ask yourself if you really want to lower yourself to a certain degree.

Worth mentioning, I haven't listened to this song and due to these "lyrics" I won't do it either, may the synthesized "music" be good or whatever. In my opinion this song and all the other crap I've ever seen produced under the name "50 cent" is a disgrace to human kind in the 21st century. I feel ashamed of beeing human when such a narrowminded person such as 50 cent can actually succeed in life.

Chimaira – Nothing Remains Lyrics 15 years ago
If you look at the video, it first seems that the guy comits suicide by puting poison in his shot. Though in the end you see that it's actually the girl inserting the poison without the guy knowing about it. So if i would interpret this sound coording to the video, I'd say it's about the girl beeing sexually abused by others all the time, and shes sick of it (watch the guy in the bar grabbing her). The thing is that she has actually let people abuse her before, to be accepted ("just longing to be accepted") and it's too late to change that image of hers, therefor she is driven to make a drastic change, in this case killing, to end her own suffering.

Ofcourse, if you only look at the lyrics, i definately would say it's about suicide but as mentioned before, the video doesn't correspond to that and in my opinion you should take the video into your interpretation.

Nuff said, great song!
