When i used to listen to this song as a little kid, i really loved it. But when the line "if i dont win im gonna break even" came around, i got really confused. For 4 years, i thought he was saying "well if i dont win, then i gonna play kitty litter." WAS I OFF OR WHAT!?!?!? I thought that he meant he was gonna pout and felt so bad that he got into and played in a kitty litter box. Crazy huh? |

wooo! Gotta be one of the most awesomeist songs ever played!!! Wow, what a great song, and an awesome verse when it talks about the weather. And the guitar is soooooo sweet! Can't argue with this, this is pure amazing rock. When i was 3 i used to play this song over and over on the stereo system in my bedroom and my 1 year old brother and i would jump around on the bed singing this song. Man when you connect to a song as a kid it never leaves you. |

sorry paloelithnick, but Eddie Van Halen played the guitar and was the guy on stage all the time. HOW CAN YOU EVEN ARGUE THAT!!!! Anyway, into the great wide open is awesome, but its easily overplayed. Listen to it every now and then or else youll ruin it. |

| bryan b, tom petty is three times the artist johnny cash is, and i really dont think that he preformed wont back down better that tp himself. Tom is an amazing artist. he hits everypoint in life. At every single moment of my day, i could sum an event up with a TP song. Hes written so many just about everyday stuff that its impossible not to be able to connect with any and all of them. Even now, i consider this like runnin down a dream, cuz im writing this as im driving around the city listening to the radio with my laptop in my lap. Oddly enough, its also raining. | |

i think this is pretty much kinda about him realizing hes done with drugs. Hes saying how he loves these girls, but then they get high or drunk or whatever and theyre not the same. He looses interest and leaves. He says through extasy glue and crystal meth hes found no drug compares to this girl, so he gets higher with love than he does on drugs. this ultimately shows him that life would be better without the drugs. |

"you were the moon and sun your just a loaded gun now" This means that the moon and sun is something you cant get away from, and thats the way he felt with his girl, but now shes a loaded gun, and he wants nothing to do with something that will hurt him. Kinda gotta dig for the meaning of that part of the song. I LOVE TOM PETTY! im 13 years old but hes my favorite. he freakin rocks!! |
