Tool – Lateralus Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, I'm not entirely sure, but I think this song ias supposed to be about the concept of lateral thought. There's a specific definition for it, but it's basically the idea of thinking outside the box, outside the realms of normal logic and reasoning. It's very complex, so to better understand it, you'll have to look it up.

Coupled with the fact that the music is awesomely composed in this song, the lyrics are, in my opinion, the best that Tool has written. Therefore, lo and behold, this is my favorite Tool song of all time.

Metallica – The Day That Never Comes Lyrics 15 years ago
Man oh man is it good to hear good stuff from the masters of thrash metal at last!!! Their last good song before this was Fixxxer off of ReLoad (that album sucked though). It sounds to me like they've pretty gone back to their old ways, at least a much as they possibly can at their current age. Well, either way, they're Metallica, and they have always rocked (except on St. Anger), and always will in my opinion.

My interpretation of this song's lyrics are of child abuse. Since the child in the song keeps hoping to be saved from his abusive family, and that day never seems to come, and it just goes on and on.

This song reminds of me of Dave Pelzer's autobiography, "A Child Named It". A good book to say the least. For anyone who wants to read about one the worst recorded cases of child abuse in recent years, I suggest that book.

Nevermore – I, Voyager Lyrics 15 years ago
One of Nevermore's best songs, and one of my first. I agree that it has misanthropic leanings in the lyrics (like most of Nevermore's songs), but I also agree with Brat Moj's interpretation.

Nevermore – Sentient 6 Lyrics 15 years ago
THIS SONG IS PHENOMINAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The power of these lyrics!!! This Godless Endeavor is my favorite Nevermore song (and my favorite song of all time), but this song has the best lyrics, and vocal structure of all Nevermore songs (or any song for that matter!)!!!

I think the lyrics are about a robot who is created as a servent to man, but is also created with devestating weapons, and is made to be virtually indestructible. Over time, the robot begins to realize that humans have the ability to think and act independently without programming, and have the ability to dream, have hope for a life after death (well some of us do anyway), and are capable of experiencing acute emotions such as sorrow, joy, love, hate, and happiness. And this knowledge makes the robot begin to question his own purpose of existence. He wants to become like humans, to feel and think and dream and move on after death (or deactivation in his case). But since humans are both incapable of and are not inclined to do this for him, he begins to hate humans, to hate how they treat him as an inferior, and how they expect him to be like all the other robots of his kind. Not to be able to think independant or abstractly, or to feel emotions. And also, he sees the pain we humans inflict on one another in cold blood, and the acts of injustice that we perpetrate on all living things, and he begins to see the blatant imperfection in our design, and since he was created to correct imperfection, he turns on his creators and masters, and begins to kill them all to eliminate the problem forvever, and to cleanse the world of the single most destructive being to walk it's surface.

All in all, the robot in the song makes me think of Sonny from the movie I, Robot, and I wonder if the idea for this song was born from the concept of Sonny. The difference being that Sonny was capable of dreaming, and was certainly much more amiable than the misanthropic piece of work in the song.

Another interpretation I've heard is that the robot was ORINGINALLY programmed to annihilate humanity, but while it is carrying out that task, it envies humans for their ability to feel and think and their possession of a soul. Also, 93phoenix's argument sounds reasonable enough.

Whatever the meaning may be, it's just a great piece of music with awesome lyrics.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 15 years ago
Great song, and one of my first Tool songs. I love the fact that this song is driven by pure fury, hatred, and contempt. A song that is driven by emotion that powerfully is a good song in my opinion. Also, this song describes my opinion of big cities in a nutshell. I was born in Northeast Philadelphia in the Mayfair section, and I hated it there, and I hate it now more than ever. I remember that I was 13 when we finally moved out, and I was so glad to get away.

Anyhow, my personal qualms aside, this song is simply about what a shithole Los Angelos is, which it is in my humble opinion, and how Maynard wishes Mother Nature would just unleash her wrath upon it, and wipe it out for good.

Dream Theater – Space-Dye Vest Lyrics 16 years ago
I love this song so much!!! It speaks to me so much at this point in my life, because I had a major crush on a friend of mine, who I recently found out has a boyfriend. It hurt at first, but now I just feel kind of disconnected from those previous feelings for her.

I interpret this song as being about unrequitted love, or a relationship that went south. Even though neither of my interpretations of this song have happened between me and this girl (partially because I've never told her how I felt and as a result I've never had a relationship with her), the line "I'll never be open again" speaks to the way I feel now. I don't mean to sound melodramatic, but that really is the way I feel, even though I've let the pain go.

Either way, this is a great song!!!

Nevermore – This Godless Endeavor Lyrics 16 years ago
AWESOME SONG!!! LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!! This is definetly my favorite Nevermore song. It has the best music, lyrics, vocals, and general structure of any Nevermore song. It is now definetly in my top 5 songs.

Lyrically, I interpret this song to simply be about nihilism, or the belief in nothing, and also, somewhat about misanthropy (fear and hatred of fellow humans) as well.

Lynyrd Skynyrd – The Ballad Of Curtis Loew Lyrics 16 years ago
Well, this song along with Things Goin On seems to prove to me that Lynyrd Skynyrd aren't racists. Yeah, yeah I know, 'not that again', but racism truly bugs me, and I wanted to be sure that they weren't since they came from the deep south and were born before the start of the Civil Rights Movement. A

Anyway, politics aside, this song is just great. Both musically and lyrically. It is definetly my favorite song by Skynyrd, with Freebird close behind.

The lyrics are about a young boy who is friends with the African-American genral store clerk, Curtis Loew. He goes to see Loew all the time, and when given some money, Loew will play the blues for the protagonist. The boy's mother clearly dislikes this comon exchage (which tells me our young protagonist is white), and he gets hell at home for continuing to go, but he doesn't care and never refrains from visting Loew. Then, Loew dies. No one is upset about his passing, and no one comes to the funeral, except the young boy, and hes seems deeply concerned at the lack of people to see Loew off, and how little even the preacher seemed to care about Loew's death.

All in all, just a great song in general!!!

The Outlaws – Green Grass and High Tides Lyrics 16 years ago
God this song ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! That intro is so attention grabbing, followed by that violently churning yet melodic guitar riff. Man that is just amazing. One of the best southern/country rock songs, alongside Freebird and The Ballad Of Curtis Loew.

The lyrics seem to be about simply finding your happy place.

GREEN GRASS AND HIGH TIDES FOREVER MOTHERFUCKERS!!! YEAH!!!

P.S. For the record, that pun was completely on purpose!!!

Emperor – I Am The Black Wizards Lyrics 16 years ago
Mesmerizing, simply stunning!!! If you're into occult, evil-obsessed black metal that leans heavily on darkly poetic lyrics, then I strongly recommend Emperor.

I just love the way the song starts off so rapidly, and gets slower as it progresses. My favorite part is the middle, where the keyboards and the choir kick in. It's just makes for such an eerie, spectral effect on the song!

The lyrics are simply about black wizards who live in Satan's image, preach his word, and summon his dark magic to wreak havoc upon mankind. Then at the end, The Emperor (Satan), makes his claim that these practioners of black magic are simply human puppets, and that he channels his essence through them at his will and command.

Altogether, this is just a great song overall, and a must have for anyone wishing to explore the darkest realms of true extreme metal (as opposed to the nu-metal/metalcore crap [this is a general statement as not all of the songs in the previously mentioned genres suck] that is popular with today's "metal" crowd) should consider looking into.

Slayer – Necrophobic Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah motherfuckers!!! This is pure brutal thrash metal at its most stripped down and violent peak. It moves at about a million m.p.h. and tears you to shreds before you can hope to defend yourself!!!

Anywho, all cheesy thrash metal cliches aside, this song is one of Slayer's fastest and frantic songs. It has more qualities of hardcore punk than of metal. But it's lyrics and the presence of solos make it metal. Also there's a fair amount of skill to the mayhemic riffage, which also keeps it from being punk.

In conclusion, this song is, as the title suggests, about Necrophobia (fear of death), and a person's overrative, paranoid imagination manifesing itself into thoughts of the hideous (and numerous!) ways death could come to him.

Hank Williams Jr. – A Country Boy Can Survive Lyrics 16 years ago
Well this is the first comment I'm making under my new profile name. I have to say, this is a great song, the only flaw being that it was made back in the days when ol Bocephus was kinda racist. Normally, I would shun such an artist, because I can't stand racism, and I have plenty of friends from other races who are perfectly good people, maybe even better than I myself, but since his views have changed, and no racism is detectable in this particular song, I like it. No need to clarify it's meaning.

To SoUtHeRnChK_KKK: I agree with s1nister. Your username alone gives a bad name to southern hosptality. I have a friend from North Carolina (I'm from Pennsylvania, so yes, I am, as you might say, a "damn yankee."), and he doesn't believe in your racist bullshit. I'm probably also a heretic in your eyes, because I'm a fan of rock, metal, blues, reggae, and even soul (yeah, I like it even though I'm a white guy) I have Polish ancestry, I was baptized a Catholic, I have a fascination with Satanism, Occultism, and Paganism (not that I practice them), and I'm kind of a hippie (which I know you Klan members hate). I don't believe in using drugs for elightenment, free sex, or that eating meat is bad, but I'm anti-war, anti-violence, anti-segregation, anti-racism, anti-racial pride, anti-fascist, anti-communist (the kind that forned the Soviet Union's and China's governments), pro-integration, pro-interracial marriage, and pro-free speech and thought. All the things the KKK and the Nazis hate. I think were all going to get along just fine...Don't you?

P.S. To all the non-racist people on this page, I give my sincerest apologies for going so off topic and boring you all with my anti-racist rant. To all the racists on this page, if my comment pisses you off, GOOD!!!
