Relient K – The Scene And Herd Lyrics 16 years ago
I think Chowderhead is right- I don't know about Relient K getting any criticism- but the more I think about it the more it seems that this is a song about the mainstream radio "scene" and the "herd" of mainstream artists; and how it can be hard to be Christian.

But he can "sleep at night without [their] help." I think he means that they don't care if people look down on them for being Christians.

And the part from "if the path I take..." to "I'll decline" sounds to me like he's saying it's hard to resist the pressure to fit into the mainstream sex drugs and rock and roll scene, but he realizes that in order to really fit in they'd have to compromise their morals.

And he's not saying that they think they're better than everyone else, because "I'll be the first to tell you I'm worse" they just don't want to compromise- "go down that road."

Well, there's my interpretation- but I wish that I could see inside Thiessen's head sometimes. (o:
