i believe lyrics about water is reference to st. lawrence river where he says "I was desperate to hold you again But you're sinking so deep in the water Outsmarted myself and so easily gave up what I wanted". in tarot water means emotion, so that people don't care about him and his pain but want his money and time like religion or the modern age. OR since the girl is floating it means shes still alive, but no ones to save her. so the line love will save the day. Dave has this weird fascination with water and breathing in his lyrics. tidal, surfacing, st.lawrence river, love will save the day, the river. beats me.. |

I think by what he means in this song is that we all try to find a higher calling and to reach that we have goals or mediums to attain it. These are all universal ideals that many believe. It will never get us anywhere because they don't exist. David is trying to say that all of various beliefs
separate us and in the end we just need each other, "cold in there, warm out side". In other words, love. |
