This is in fact a great track. Yes, its probably their "pop"-iest track in awhile, but its still great music. Elementary lyrics not in the least. You don't drop French in what you consider "elementary" lyrics.

I think its pretty obvious that the song is about a guy's falling out with a girl/multiple girls. The lyrics lean towards the notion that he gets sick of his relationships after so long and they have bad endings because of that.
A great song nonetheless, I really love this band, I hope they crank out more hits, they have a great unique sound. |

I think the song mostly has to do with a girl who is following a false dream or trying to live her life as something she isn't, and the guy wishes he hadn't let her get that far, that far away per se, hence the lasso chorus, saying where would you be able to go if I had kept you closer to me. The guy is also insisting that she be herself with lines such as "wear your real eyes"

I don't want to sound picky but the name of the song is "Close to Me". Anyways, what an amazing song, Ballyhoo! might be one of the most underrated bands out there right now. These baltimore boys make some seriously good music. My buddy hired them to play at his wedding, incredible stuff.

You all should see the french film "Umbrellas of Cherbourg" and you would appreciate this song infinitely more. It is a musical per se, except that it has regular film dialog but it is all sung and its lovely. Also the film incorporates intense uses of vibrant colors in the costumes and it is visual and audible ecstasy. Please give it a look! |
