Arcade Fire – No Cars Go Lyrics 15 years ago
There should be two versions of this song on SongMeanings.net imo- this is the Arcade Fire EP version, whereas the Neon Bible version has a couple of alternate lines.

"(Mom!)
(Dad!)
(No Go!)"

Becomes:

"Go!
No Go!"
-----------
Also, almost the whole final italicized stanza is removed. All that remains is:

"Little babies- let's go!
Women and children- let's go!
Olf folks- let's go!
Don't know where we're goin'"

The Presidents of the United States of America – Jennifer's Jacket Lyrics 16 years ago
How the hell has the song got no comments?

It's so freakin awesome. I'm sure it was in Scrubs at some point. This is what I love this band for- songs that have obviously been made on a passionate whim; fun, spur-of-the-moment type songwriting, and the result almost always brilliant.

Sufjan Stevens – Come On! Feel the Illinoise! (Part 1: The World's Columbian Exposition; Part 2: Carl Sandburg Visits Me in a Dream) Lyrics 16 years ago
Shush ashley_EM, you could've explained in about one sentence what 5/4 means, and it doesn't add THAT much to the song anyway- it's just an interesting byline. I, for one, didn't know it was in the common Jazz timing until you said so. 5/4 basically means instead of going "1, 2, 3, 4" as single beats, it goes "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" as single beats- this gives it more rythmic freedom and panache.

I adore this song though, especially part II about Carl Sandburg, it's just so beautiful and melodic. "Even in his heart the devil has to know the water level; are you writing from the heart? Are you writing from the heart?" Genius songwriting. The phrasing is sublime. 19/20 definately.

That he did.

I used to think it was "I've dreamt about the soul, many times before", which I liked, but I guess I was wrong. Still a great song.

The "Sarah" sounds a lot like "Tell her", a strange phonetical coincidence I think. It still sounds a lot like "tell her" to me, but a good few reliable sources say it's "Sarah", so I guess it's so.

Johnny Cash – A Boy Named Sue Lyrics 16 years ago
I remember reading the lyrics to Silverstein's follow-up song; he wrote it as an answer to Cash getting famous by Boy Named Sue. It certainly wasn't about how Sue was a wuss- it was WAY more messed up than that. It basically catalogues how the son becomes a perfect wife...yeah it gets really messed up. Look it up yourself lol

Grandaddy – Nonphenomenal Lineage Lyrics 16 years ago
I totally agree with frijolito.

This song really reminded me of Midlake's first album- this resounding theme of science, and people failing due to science/ scientific method.

The feeling I got from this song was that this guy has been through some kind of scientific test that everybody goes through (possibly at coming of age or somesuch); but that his lineage (his descendants or ancestors) wasn't phenomenal enough to be worth anything to the society. So he gets sent back home, unlike (it's presumed) everybody else, who have something interesting or special about them and go onto to greater things and fortunes. Poor guy. This song evokes total pathos. Great stuff.

Midlake – anabel Lyrics 16 years ago
Huh, no comments.

Just a perfectly pretty little song, seems to be about sharing things with someone close, and how that bond can clear your head of all the dirt in the world.

Midlake – Head Home Lyrics 16 years ago
It's interesting, I actually misheard the chorus and thought it was: "Bring me a day full of honest words". Somehow that evoked far more pathos for me: making it feel as if nobody ever talked to the guy, and if they did it was never genuine. Still, that was quashed with checking the actual lyrics. Great song.

The Zombies – Beechwood Park Lyrics 16 years ago
I love that effect, you cannot remember ever hearing a song, but you know all the words. Happened to me with most of Shootennany! by the EELS.

When I started listening to Odessey and Oracle I never expected on tiny 2.5 minute song to grab my attention and love so much. Brilliant.
