I Don't really think thats its about rape, because there is too much to imply that the girl got herself into this situation and it is partly her fault as well. I doubt that this song iwould try to say that. I see this song as being about a girl who knows that her new boyfriend is trouble, but this confidence and mystery and excitement is what draws her to him. She wants to be a part of his mischief and take part in his gang activities. But she does not completely realize what this entails. He on the other hand, likes her and wants her to be part of what he does, but he is also worried about her because she is not used to being a part of gang activities. Hence the lines "he won't let her out of his sight." He also realizes that her coming with him on these criminal adventures could also end badly because she could become sad or hurt. And that is why he questions "are you pulling her from a burning building or throwing her to the sharks"...he wonders if it is a good thing to bring her along. She is having fun at first, and is caught up in the excitement of it all, but then when things begin to turn bad and they are in danger from something...possibly another gang or the law, she gets scared. And his main worry is her, hence again the repeating "he wont let her out of his sight". He is worried about her safety. In the end she reflects that she did get herself into this situation, and she did chose to be with him knowing well what he was. But she does not want to give him up because of this, and instead like may women, she feels she can change him to suit her needs. That why in the last lines she pleads him to take off the balaclava which symbolizes his leaving the gang life of crime, to be with her. But in the end, while he still cares about her, she cannot change him, and his life is with his gang. And he will not take off his balaclava (meaning leave his gang) even for her. |
