Now I want to give my prespective since I'm Asian and all. I like Morrissey and I don't think this song is that racist as other peeps make it seem. To me, this song is about people who try to fit in without regards of their own skin. Asians, at least here in the States, are viewed as the more rational, artless, straight thinking individuals. So this "Asian rut" got killed since he was trying to defy this expectation of the English thug. I hate it when people view racism as a necessary evil since everyone, including myself, has some sort of reservation on someone else based on their looks. I don't know. I most certainly don't speak for all Asians since I don't really have that many Asian friends and not Asian friendly type of folk but I thought it's at least a start. PS I know of Morrissey's "China as subspecies" remark, but frankly I don't really care. I don't like Chinese people that much either. |
