Just based on my personal experience, this song struck me as the story of someone who once had all the answers ('the information guy'; the 'lifeguard') - basically someone who was the go-to person...maybe they helped a lot of people out with their problems. But then, due to a crippling experience of sorts ('have you ever been all messed up?'; 'but everything looks bigger on your knees'), they were broken down to become the person that they once helped. I think the words 'freaks' is used as how outsiders might view such people, but i think the lyricist has empathy for such people. That's my two cence anyway. |
