Hey, where are all the "oh my God this song is sooo beautiful!!1!"-comments? Shit, I think I've almost never seen such a factual/informative collection of comments. It almost makes me shy to post anything here :)
Well anyways, I can picture Drake wrote this after fucking up something in some sort of relationship, that was in it's early stage. But the title Fly: in the first verse I think he describes himself as a bird, first time FLYing out of the nest, then falling far down and sitting on the ground. Then he goes out of the bird metaphor and jumps to the relationship with "in your way". He invites whoever he speaks to to sit on the fence with him, like passing time and chilling out watching the world, and goes back to the title fly with "to hard to fly." Maybe he means "what I tried was too hard"? And in the end he says that "she" (that points to that the song may be about an early romantic relationship) also tries something too hard, since it's really too hard to fly...

I like when artists put titles that can be used to point to many things (like Fly) on their works. Also, since in many cases, writers/poets/music artists just creates semi-open works that could be interpreted in many ways (for me, a sign of quality). I think he did the same with "Pink Moon"..

Okey, since i posted this one i'll give it the first go:
It's about the shady aftermath after the hurricane Katarina in New Orleans. Main critic is about the slow responses to the crises, how the media handled the thing, and airing some thoughts about charity.

It's the last charity/helping fund verse i dig the most, as i haven't seen the topic come up so much. What Jay-Z and Ne-Yo is doing is more drawing a picture on how many many people react to crises like that: "Sayin' such a shame// then tryin' to go on with my life// Of that, I too, am guilty//(...)So we send a lil' money, tell 'em it's alright// To be able to sleep at night// You will pay that price// While some of these folks' lost their whole life" <-- that is the strongest & most original verse, in my opinion.
And, it kinda hits me hard, 'couse you see, im from a country in the world that (IF you compare it to other countries) literally HAS NO PROBLEMS. Of course we have some issues, like wife-beating, raping, and a couple of murders each year, but compared to other nations.... So we see this shit like the hurricane Katrina on tv, or some war going on, and we to send a lil' money to be able to sleep at night. Or do we send a lot of money because of a higher moral understanding? Or because we feel obligated? Or because were forced through laws 'n shit, and to cover shit up? I give away no answers, Jay-Z and Ne-Yo didn't either. But i think it's cool those questions are being raced.

PS: think Jay's voice acting is super (and his lyrics always g.o.a.t.), and i love the rain soundeffect, kinda gets me in the mood..

Sorry folks, negativity coming:
I don't like the title. I don't like the deal about the song, to be real; for me, it's to obvious. Like, i Love how the Kings did it on Taper Jean Girl: all the subtle references, all that. People are getting that Taper is about sex, but their not getting it fed into them before they even push play, like with this song.
That being said, i think the melody rocks, the lyrics _are_ awsome, but the title and the marketing-trick-thing I kinda smell coming from the title and shit, kinda makes the whole thing stink ;). Anyone?

i agree pezdel. aint always about finding the artists exact intentions in a song, but giving the artist props for creating a open song that reaches out to many people. yep, pretty much what you said:)

id say he prefers Alcohol since the title says he never went to church (christianity). But i think it's a stupid line, i mean: i love the whole song and the "God payed me regard" part - it shows that he respects religion in a way. And with that in mind, the openings just a smart punch not needed, or what?

Hey hey. I just get a feeling that the vocalist has gotten all this messed-up ideas about what america is supposed to be, through media i.e., and now his trying in a disappointed way to tell/ask "america" if its gotten into the wrong course?
Guess i got my interpretation alot from the musical mood im feeling, which is super subjective, but hey: its art so its ok to be subjective. And i think its great:)

David Crosby – What Are Their Names Lyrics 16 years ago
Sadly, this lyric makes as much sense today, as it did in the seventies when it came.
Crosby speculated who was the REAL power behind behind the scenes in our glorious White House. The lyric questions our democracy, in a way that was necessary in the seventies, and, SADLY, is still necessary today.

If I can comment the music, then I have to say it's fantastic. The way the song builds up, and in the end deliver the all-powerful verse; great! :)

One of 'em protestsongs I guess, I like this song very much; yes sir.
Two good pictures: "Time is running backwards, and so is the bride", and
"Sun is going down, upon the sacred cow", very lively pictures indeed.
But what does mean? I'm guilty in not knowing my Bible-history to well, but I see the references. The song is for me a sort-of-reminder of all who we need to pay more attention to. May it be the blind, the poor, or the awakening when you see your world is not innocent.
Sufjan Stevens has a great cover-version of this song (from the I'm not there OST). Yes!
