This song is about the reunion between two former lovers. The first part of the song has her relating her first memories of the lucky Guy. While she knows this person is trouble for her (she loves him too much? ["I have been informed you could be the death of me]). But she still loves him... even though he has moved on. ["But patience bounds an eternal stone You were meant to be mine..."] - To me this is her saying that she will wait, has fantastic patience, for the two of them to meet again and re-kindle. The second half of the song has her showing she understands that things may not and perhaps could not have worked. ["Sky whispers in a baritone that the mystery always beats what I am shown"] - We all know this one. Sometimes the fantasy is better than the reality. She likes the mystery. Perhaps this is what she really loves. Perhaps the relationship could not actuqally work. ["search the the dial for what i need to know they don't play those songs on my radio"] - Easy enough. We all want to hear songs to relate to and perhaps grab some advice from. But few songs can tell you how to cope with this... and they are hard to find. All in all? A song about two people getting back together or the hope of getting back together and the feelings that result. |

Okay... I stopped reading these "reviews" and "interpretations" after the first couple of shitty posts. First of all, The Alkaline Trio is a fucking punk band. Sure, emo kids like them too. Fine. Whatever. And the sellout arguments are inherently lame. A N Y W A Y When I listen to this song, I can't help but think it is about something specific. Some incident/person in particular. I think this song is about somebody who killed themselves. A friend of a bandmember, perhaps. The lyrics, in a more general way, can relate to a lot of things. Everybody has felt trapped before. Well, in a nutshell, that is what this is about. But not JUST that... feeling so trapped that you swallow bottles of opiates and barbituates with lots of alcohol. Pretty sad stuff.... On a personal level, this song makes me think of a friend of mine or two. One of my brother's best friends killed himself not too long ago. Very sad situation. (And no, neither of them are/were emo fuckers). But mostly... this song makes me think of the way I would react to a particular person I am really worried about... I don't know how I would react if she were to die/kill herself. |
