TV on the Radio – Stork and Owl Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Fucking. This song is about fucking. Everything about this song is a metaphor for sex. I think people are getting hung up on the "death" aspects of this song but I see death being used here in a "la petite mort" way where the brief weakening of consciousness during an orgasm is considered to be similar to dying. As for why a Stork and Owl my best guess would be because an Owl is symbolic of seeking knowledge while a Stork is symbolic of fertility and life which again, could be relating this song to a fascination with exploring sexuality. Some of the lines are just really obvious about it all: In and out, in and out Back and forth, back and forth Yeah, not exactly subtle. Love this song btw. |

Great song about sex, more or less. Basically, incredibly beautiful but dangerous girl that he's basically addicted too. Love the line "The spark in your eyes belies the apocalypse inside you" |
TV on the Radio – New Health Rock Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Brilliant, awesome song. Lyrics seem pretty wrong here though. I'm not sure but I think the "every battle" line is actually something closer to "listen up every band that never ever . . ." I think profoundkey's got the right idea, it's about going wild with your creativity, not being afraid to take chances and risks. This song makes me think of how Tunde dances around at show, he totally lets himself go with the music, it's killer. |
TV on the Radio – Dreams Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Seems like it's about a love/hate relationship between a guy and a girl, who both also happen to hate themselves. So basically in the song he's listing off all the things he hates about the girl and why their relationship failed, but he's also admitting he himself has the same flaws, takes two to tango. The guy is looking back on the failed relationship and he no longer has any hopes and dreams for their future, it's all over, but he also looks back on it as the best time of his life even though it was doomed, aka favorite moment of a dead century. Brilliant fuckin song like most their stuff. Amazing band, way better live than on cd btw. |
Aesop Rock – How to Be a Carpenter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with MyCsPiTTa on this, he summed up almost exactly how I feel when I listen to it. At times it seems like your dreams are impossible when faced with crushing reality, but you've just got to relax and do things your way in the end. |

This is a great song and one of my fav from the album, I've read the lyrics like 30 times and it all seems like gibberish to me. :/ |
Wolf Parade – It's a Curse Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Best fucking zombie song I've ever heard. And yes, it's defiantly about zombies attacking. |
Mclusky – Alan Is A Cowboy Killer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about child molestation/pornography. "Pull up my pants Now the camera crew has gone In your statement to the police Tell them how you turned me on" Basically telling about this guy having sex with this little girl, 'statement to the police' seems to mean he's been found out. "But you were such an ugly child You were such an awkward child You were such a stupid child We should've cottoned on" Basically what's stuck in her mind afterwards, she feels like she's ugly, awkward, stupid, worthless, etc. "Take up tai chi Now your favourite pet has died We had crazy fucking times 'Till her visa card expired" Most of this I haven't pieced together too well, but taking up tai chi seems to be her trying to make herself stronger to move on with her life. "Wipe up his mess Pay your fluffers by the yard How you're paying for your peace How you're paying for your peace" And, it seems like she's moved on to the pornography industry, probably haunted by her past and can't escape it so she's doing the only thing she knows how to do. and finally... "That Alan is a cowboy killer" Alan refers to the man who molested her as a child, and cowboys are basically seen symbolically as good, noble, upstanding honorable men, and he's ruined that sense of purity for her. At least, that's how I see this song. |
Sage Francis – Agony in Her Body Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Eh, yes this song is about sex but its a lot more complicated than just that. I think a lot of its about the complete loss of innocence and delving into sadism and masochism. I'm not sure but the ending has a lot of imagery surrounding childbirth and death, and the whole song has themes of cold calculated science and surgery... |
Frog Eyes – "Stockades" Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I can't believe nobody's posted for this song before, its utterly brilliant. Definitely the strongest song I've heard by Frog Eyes along with Reform The Countryside because the two flow so well together and contain many of the same themes. It has so much imagery that makes me think of a ship riding the seas in a squall...unfortunately I have hardly a clue what its about, especially the "twice-cursed night", but its beautiful. |
Junior Boys – In The Morning Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The lyrics are "There's a million [names] to choose from." not a million years. also, its "they [can] chase forever." Anyways, I think its about a girl who's going around sleeping with anyone and everyone who's older basically because she's an idiot. |
