this song is flat out a masterpiece. have you heard him play it live? it is amazing. so simple a song, with lyrics so plain, but you get the feeling of the song so well. It builds and builds just like the lyrics, and comes to a raging climax; then it cools down, and you get a sense of relief. What i get from it, is that this girl (if used in it's simplest context, not the context of war) said things to him over and over again, and she broke his heart. it's just devastating. so simple, and yet so to the point. amazing. |

I think that another part of the reason the relationship went south, is because she never opened up. "Why is everybody always trying to hide the heart that hidden has no use" and "Dancing all alone in your room" It's almost like she was never really committed to the relationship and when she decided to float away, there was nothing that he could do. I think the part about the flowers is about what he did. He talks about the girl "killing the flowers planted for you," implication that he was planting flowers and she was ignoring them. So the flower verses are telling himself (even though she sings) to not get too involved next time. |

I love this song. I think the lyrics are very straight forward, and just beautiful. He is sitting there staring at this girl while she is asleep, and he is thinking about the ways in which he loves her. He knows that he loves her, and he knows that he is willing to do anything and everything for this girl. But the monsters represent everything getting in the way. It could be things in either of their pasts, it could be fears inside of him holding their relationship back. Any way you put it, there is something that keeps coming up in his mind that is getting between them. But the entire time, he loves her. |
