I like how most of you uneducated conor oberst fans seem to forget that when he was 13 he was releasing tapes titled, "water" and "here's to special treatment". he was 13 when he did those and those have similarly emotional songs, some even more emotional than this. so stop bitching about how he couldn't possibly be 13 when wrote this. stop being naive to teh fact that some kids have a early realization of how tough life is when your young. Conor is a sensitive guy and i can relate, and it isn't being a pussy, its being realistic and opening your eyes to reality instead of being a naive ignorant bastard macho piece of shit. so yeah. just wanted to say that.

i agree with evil bunny. its the truth. i mean on a list of top 10 conor oberst songs (every band he was in) this ranks in my top 10. and i have heard EVERYTHING from conor. from his three releases when he was 13 to 14 to every bright eyes cd. plus commander venus, and desaparecidos and park ave. which he didnt even sing in. this def is on my top 10. i feel this way about someone i know. and i just want to protect her from evertything. but the thing is i also want someone to help me through the same thing |

you know, out of all lyrics i read and try to understand. This is by far the hardest of them all. not this song but the promise ring in general. his lyrics jump around so many times to soo many things, its just a little too much to handle. i can understand some of it and then there are parts i dont understand. i thought Cap'N Jazz lyrics were difficult, jeez, they have nothing on these guys. if someone can really explain to me what some of his songs mean. i would appreciate it. i dont know if i am blind to what he sings about but others its so easy to know what they mean,even if they use world play or hidden meanings. this guy takes the cake |

i have to say this is the most comfortable easy going song on the cd. i feel so at peace with everything when i listen to this song. the song hardly makes sense, at best you can see what he means (if you pay attention, like all promise ring songs as well as Cap'n Jazz songs.) i love this song, great song |

to me this song is about this special type of girl that is so different from the others. only a few girls could like foreign films. so this girl has to be special to her. something different about her attracted him to her. and as he sees her and finally gets to be with her other people are with them and he just wants to be with her and no one else to talk and laugh and be happy. before that the only time he would be with her is when they walk to her car and they are so close that he wants to explain everything to her and how he feels but he wont because it would hurt to much (lyrics, duh). so he just sits there with the awkwardness and he stays while she leaves without knowing how he feels. basically the story of my life. every girl I have liked has ended this way.... thats why i can't get tired of this song i listen to it like everyday and never get tired of it because its that good and it rings true to me and its so real to me. so thats it |
