Blue October – Congratulations Lyrics 15 years ago
I love how dramatic the chorus sounds, especially with Imogen Heap's amazing vocals. Really drives home the pain he's feeling.

Goodbooks – Violent Man Lovesong Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm shocked at how little attention GoodBooks are getting on here. This is such a lovely song, from an excellent album.

Owl City – West Coast Friendship Lyrics 15 years ago
I've been listening to this song a lot lately as it's pretty relevant to me right now. I think it's about long-distance relationships: not necessarily romantic ones, more wanting a closeness with someone and being physically unable to have it.

The part about the rain feeling sad could refer to the fact that people on the west coast who rarely get rain actually enjoy it when it comes, whereas he gets it all the time. Maybe the rain reminds his friend of him and it gets them down. Cutting out the door says to me that he's desperate to get away - possibly even though he's just arrived somewhere seeing as it's his "new living room floor" - and then when he finally goes there to see the person, he's overwhelmed and can't believe he's there.

"The new year is out here,
And I will make a lovely list
Of your charms
So I'll never feel alone in your arms."

To me that part confirms that it is about someone who he lives far from, and wants to be near.

Snow Patrol – Hands Open Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't understand why some people are so up in arms about the fact that he mentioned Sufjan Stevens in this song - clearly he or the person he's singing about likes them, and a song by him was probably quite integral in the moment he's describing. A mainstream artist alluding to a lesser-known one doesn't take away from the fact that either are talented. Also, you have to remember that he's English, and a lot of the time the accent makes the "oo" sound like an "uh" (like in books, for example), so he could well be saying it correctly.

Shiny Toy Guns – (Putting On The) Ritz Lyrics 15 years ago
It was written by Irving Berlin in 1929. It's essentially a depiction of flapper society and the aristocracy of New York in the late twenties.

isn't this song by antsy pants?

Panic! at the Disco – Nine In The Afternoon Lyrics 16 years ago
this song's pretty great, but the rest of the album leaves a lot to be desired. if you're going to buy pretty.odd. on the basis of nine in the afternoon, try and listen to a couple of the other tracks first: you'll save the tenner.

i am so, so disappointed in this album. this song has a good idea behind it, but it sounds so disjointed.

The Cure – Friday I'm in Love Lyrics 16 years ago
i love the bridge part, when he says: "to see your shoes and your spirits rise" and "such a gorgeous sight, to see you eat in the middle of the night". to me, it's saying that he's just started to love this person because he's seen them as real: they have their little idiosyncracies and he adores them. it's so simple and so genuine.

fantastic song, this. used to hear it two or three times a day when i worked in topshop and miraculously never tired of it.

Dashboard Confessional – Hands Down Lyrics 16 years ago
this song is clearly about him having sex with someone he really likes, possibly for the first time. i have a live version in which he describes it as "a song about the best day that i've ever had", which i thought was sweet. i like this song, because it doesn't belittle the act at all.

Lightspeed Champion – Everyone I know is listening to Crunk Lyrics 16 years ago
it's "take me to the genesis to see 'saw three'" as in, the film. and later on, it's "for a mango frescato, or tea?".

this song is really cute: i love how it has personality, and quirks specific to the relationship he has with the person he's singing about:

"come over: i just got the new OC."

it's as though the oc was their favourite programme together. (:

Desaparecidos – What's New for Fall Lyrics 16 years ago
i hardly know anyone who's heard of bright eyes, let alone desaparecidos or conor oberst himself. i like it that way, 'cause it makes them more special to the few devoted fans. (:

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly – A Song For... Lyrics 16 years ago
this was the first song i heard by get cape. since then, i've seen them three times, and met sam twice. they're utterly fantastic, because they want to utilise their popularity rather than bask in it.

this song is really gorgeous. (:

Loney, Dear – I Am John Lyrics 16 years ago
i got this free on itunes, and it is scarily addictive! i love everything about it. (:

i think it's about trying not to let people down despite what life throws at you, even though you're sure you'll do it at some point.

Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics 16 years ago
the first time i heard this song, i was just blown away by how gorgeous it is. i love imogen's voice: it's so sweet and strong. then, i was so surprised to hear it on a tv show. :)

one thing, it's:

"the dust has only just begun to FORM
crop circles in the carpet."

it makes more sense that way.
