I almost read all the opinions on this song, but I hadn't found one which barely seems reasonable - no offence. In my belief 'the animals' =/= boxers (plm!). It, stands for all the bad things ( I appreciated the one that thought that animals was happiness) that happened to him. All the negative things related to an affair. So this is what I see: he doesn't seem to feel comfortable with this relationship- in which he doesn't enjoy every aspect of love - she isn't there for him ( see the reference to accidental babies song). They see each other once in a while (hence 'gone for so long') - maybe this is the ultimate rendez-vous and he declares his love in hoping that she 'throws down her hair' and for the first time remains. The reference to the house is to the living together - to start a life as a real couple; and the dogs are the fence in their relationship. The other lyrics are so easy to understand from this point of view, especially form the point of view of any lover. I hope my english is understandable :) |
