i have only left a handful of comments on this site. but i love this song . obviously its about a failed relationship. i love the line about "50 years" and also when he says "all results will be lifeless and lead to an excuse to never try again, to never try at all' i believe he is just saying what we all feel when relationships end . how can we try this again with anyone else . lest i end up a shipwreck like the last relationship very beautiful song. i only heard it recently . and though how could i have lived my life without hearing this |

i love this song more than anything, mayb i'm gay but it makes me so sad . the type of song that just gets my situation or state of mind and because it could mean many things is what's beautiful "People you've been before that you don't want around anymore That push and shove and won't bend to your will I'll keep them still" so many people and roles you've been , maybe too many people you've been with , that person that just takes your mind off things i used to know a guy that could do that for me but it came with a price , never ask for too much do what , be good and he'll stay around "The pressure of days, do what I say And I'll make you okay and drive them away" "Drink up, baby, look at the stars I'll kiss you again between the bars" this line is crazy ...it's like the guy had you in a cage trapped like a prisoner or exotic bird "Keep you apart, deep in my heart Separate from the rest, where I like you the best" the person wants to keep you in a corner , they love you but they want you apart from the rest of their life |

I want to be forgotten, and I don't want to be reminded. You say "please don't make this harder." No, I won't yet. love this phrase it completely caught what i'm feeling right now it means to me sort of a trainwreck relationship where loves takes second place to misunderstandings ,neediness and unresolved problems with each other . So fed up with dealing with a breakup of a really bad relationship you just sort of want to be forgotten and not be reminded of all that was done wrong. nobody would want to make it harder to end it |

the first time i heard this song i became an elliot smith fan . the great thing about this song is that it can mean so many different things to people who listen to it . i love the beat, it has a sound of despair almost desperate . i do think it has something to do with drugs or needing something that makes desperate to get out of your head to be quiet where ever you want . and it feels sort of like a big fuck you to everyone who is just hassling you asking to much questions . my favorite part is I can't beat myself I can't beat myself And I don't want to talk I'm taking the cure So I can be quiet Whenever I want although originally i had thought he said i cant be myself i cant be myself ....... which is sort of how i feel sometimes . either way its intense and gorgeous |
