Velvet Revolver – Sucker Train Blues Lyrics 16 years ago
Thanks Wings of a Wolf for some decent insight... This song is really interesting, and it's meaning is difficult to interpret. It reminds me alot of the Dean Koontz novel "Seize the Night". If you read this novel, you'd know what I mean. It's all about a parallel universe that's ruled by the devil, and many of the lyrics above are derived from this story. There's a scientific project gone awry called "Mystery Train" that sends people into the future. However, they don't really go into the future, they go into a parallel universe that is like Hell with a devil and "All the animals are dead". The people come back with worms coming out of their body, hence "somebody raped my tapeworm abortion". Also, the title "Sucker Train Blues" sounds like a reference to the "Mystery Train" project and the worms that take over, or the suckers. The worms are planted by the devil, who shoots the worm seed at you. The worms eventually take over your body, and come out your eyes "Yeah and when I want to
Yeah I will blind you". Because of these similarities and the references to Armaggedon and the devil, I'm fairly sure this is about "Seize the Night". It's a very cool book, and this song fits it almost perfectly.

Nirvana – Sappy Lyrics 16 years ago
To me, this song is beautifully existential. Kurt was trying to deal with life's tragedies, and this whole song sounds like a expression of disgust at the world. The bug analogy is clear - that is Kurt's complaint that god(s) are keeping us in a jar. However, I think the laundry room analogy is a little more mysterious. Maybe it just means the bug jar is kept in a crappy place like a laundry room. To a music lover, the laundry room is hell, with all of its beeping and mechanical sounds. However, I think the analogy is maybe that we are always cleaning our clothes, trying to be better than we are. We make life seem happy by constantly putting on fresh clothes (or putting on a happy face). We are actually just "wallowing in our own shit".

Nirvana – Drain You Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree totally this is a love song, but it also is about Cobain's unfulfilled need for real love. Cobain was a genius who had serious issues that came out in his lyrics. "I don't care what you think, Unless it is about me" - This is a statement about a lover who doesn't understand Cobain, and tries to love but really just satisfies her own ego. It's a statement of loneliness by Cobain, and also about frustration that his most intimate friends don't understand him. In effect, instead of loving Cobain, this person is draining him. Also, "You've taught me everything, Without a poison apple" means more than just she's a teacher without much regard for Cobain's health. Cobain's referring to the wicked witch in Sleeping Beauty, who offers the the poisoned apple. Sleeping Beauty was put to sleep indefinitely until a prince broke the spell with a kiss. This is an analogy to the twisted relationship described in this song. Cobain is put to sleep by the poison apple which is his lover's suffocating nature. Cobain's loneliness and depression were elevated by a selfish woman who didn't understand him. The poison apple is actually a bad relationship, and the sleep is actually Cobain's depression.
