This is a carpe diem song. The speaker is telling the girl that they need to "seize the day" and stop wasting time in their relationship because time is running out (this is shown in the images about the tide coming in and the sun setting.) in the second verse he talks about how they keep wasting there time "seems like i waste all my time making time" and how instead of actively being in the relationship he's just writing about it "seems like i waste all my time making rhymes." I didn't fully understand this song until we studied carpe diem poems in english class. Then all the pieces fit together. Who knew? English is good for something! |

this song is magical. its what first drew me to pillar. they are all incredible people and i love them all!
(liamfin, it's not that he's worried about someone 'taking him in the fire' its more like he's asserting that no matter what someone may do to him physically, they can't touch his spirit because its in the hands of God) |

here's the thing with mae: whether they want to call themselves a "christian" band or not, if they truly are followers of Christ their music will be a reflection of their faith. that doesn't mean every song is explicitely about God, but it does mean that their lyrics and themes will relflect a hope and a worldview that is coloured by Christ. so anyways, i think this song could be interpreted as a relationship between two people or as a person's relationship with God (a lot of times the two can mirror each other.) personally the first time i heard it on the radio i was feeling very discouraged and it the song really helped me in realizing my need for God and surrendering my problems to Him. so thats what it means to me anyways. |
