Streetlight Manifesto – Forty Days Lyrics 16 years ago
Does anyone else think that the "absurd" reference alludes to Albert Camus? He's mentioned in Here's to Life as one of Kalnoky's heroes. To summarize the ideology of the absurd, Camus believed that the world was absurd in looking for the meaning of life or claiming to know the meaning of life. Consequently, for Camus, there was no definite meaning to life but perhaps the traditional idea of "carpe diem" (live everyday to its fullest).

I have not completely dissected the song but from my point of view Kalnoky is contrasting the idea of the Absurd with religion (and in this case Christianity).

In conclusion you have to determine your beliefs and no one else can make that decision for you by the time of your death. The song accurately portrays a struggle of rational thinking in terms of religion/faith. For example if agnostics were good-natured throughout life wouldn't they deserve to be in heaven? Instead they wait at the gates.

I'd love to talk to Tomas one time about his philosophies because I seem to have the same troubles mentioned in his songs.

Overall, I think Forty Days describes (me) the struggle of the unknown in life (religion) and its effect on meditative, rational thinkers.

Streetlight Manifesto – That'll Be The Day Lyrics 17 years ago
i believe this song is about a person who knew he or she was going to commit suicide and made no effort to be humble about it tomas respnds to him by with the same stubborness the suicidal person seems to hold "i dont care if you go now or if you stay" when the song comes to the part where tomas says "gone" the person has finally commited suicide but was laughing all the way to his grave while he or she did it the reason why because it is alluded to in that verse what the beliefs of that person believed about the after life which is it doesn't matter how you die you will be forgiven and saved in the end which is the reason they were laughing the whole time

The Mountain Goats – The Bad Doctor Lyrics 17 years ago
one of my favorite mg songs i think it is about a doctor who has the job of "pulling the plug" on helpless people and how the world perceives this man through metaphors such as the whole natural world painted red like a target
