Maxïmo Park – A Fortnight's Time Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This album seems to cover British modern club culture to a great degree, I reacon: "When it comes to girls I'm mostly hypothetical If I list their names it's purely alphabetical When it comes to girls I'm truely theoretical If I test a nerve it's merely dialetical" is about that, I'm thinking of a mobile phone on a club, night when you are going down the list trying to think of who "hypothetically" you might be able to get with. And the theoretical and dialectical ways of chatting said girl up |
The Libertines – Time For Heroes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I feel I must say something here, because some of you guys are way off. There is nothing anti-chav about this song, its the opposite, its anti-establishment to a degree. The point is not that they are wearing the baseball caps (although it is to a degree, Doherty/Baret do like to promote englishness, so they arn't that impressed) it is that the type of civil protest that the song obviously documents "riots," "wombles," "coughing up blood" is ultimatly useless and in capitalist society the lower classes, whom Pete in particular is known for his afinity with, are powerless to escape their place on the scale. The Libertines love finding a romance in un-romantic things (thats where the morrissey influence is most obvious) and here they have tried to find a sort of freedom angle in the ending "were in a class of our own my love," which could mean as cheddaringo points out that you should try to ignore and transcend class, or alternitively could mean that by attempting to fight the class system as the songs characters are, they are above the futility of the class system and as such in a class of their own. Don't sit on the internet insulting chavs please, its an econmically driven sub-culture with far more political value than emo, goth, or alcoholic student. |

Counting Crows – Hard Candy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
its probably his first love, because of that sense of regret associated with never fully gaining the "closeless" you'd have liked due to inexperience- all the slang term "hard candy" meaning young girl |
Counting Crows – Perfect Blue Buildings Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'd agree with these interpretations based purely on the lyrics, but countings crows only deal with emotions, not finite situations, this is a broad song dealing with insomnia and depression |
Maxïmo Park – Russian Literature Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"There's a news blackout 'Cus it just got worse Status depends, on the size of your purse"- Oh Paul, you kidder |
Maxïmo Park – Acrobat Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Maxïmo Park – Our Velocity Lyrics | 17 years ago |
actually there is more... "are you willing to resist/for people you've never met"- the critics themselves trying to gauge temperature- working out reaction to the music but everything is happening so fast obviously this works on two levels as a love song as well- but that is common technique in modern pop to increase marketability (Franz Ferdinand-take me out/ Green Day Time Of Your Life/ Razorlight- Golden Touch) |

theres a dose of self-criticism here I think he is concerned with the depth (or lack thereof) of his own lyrics) "I buy books, I never read And then I’ll tell you some more about me"- why bother listening to me, I don't know anymore than you "My words are just hunches I’m not sure what they mean"- perhaps admiting what music critics have often noted, that his lyrics often seem to be picked for rhyme and rhythem rather than meaning "you tend to travel at such speed"/"A stream of numbers hit a screen And you’re expected to know what they mean"- sudden success, met with critical exposure, almost defending himself against a potential pasting from the critics (which the album just about avoided) I don't think this is the main meaning of the song (it wouldn't be meaty enough) but I get the impression right through this album that you are listening to a band expecting to go the way of the futrureheads... actually they have radio one kissing their ass |
