I personally don't think he named it after a show. To me, the song is about loving someone and knowing that life is going to take you in different directions...both of which life so inevitably invokes (loving and leaving, in one way or another). One of my favorites. |

This song hits close to home for me. A good friend of mine recently lost her brother unexpectedly. Helping him and her family was a big part of her life, and the loss has been extremely hard on her. It reminds me of how I felt standing in the room at the viewing. The man shaking hands makes me think of her father meeting the friends that came to support her, and then when he says "since you left" I think of one of us talking to her brother. The falling asleep bit is referring to depression. When someone is depressed, they'll sleep a lot so that they don't have to think about things...it's an escape from the pain. The buildup is how she feels after he departs...like she gave so much, and to just let go of it so immediately is just unimaginable. She never got to say goodbye. I wish I could somehow take away all of the pain...that's what this song means to me. |
