| Reminded me of "The Track of the Cat", a semi-obscure western by Walter Van Tilburg Clark, in which brothers hunt down a killer panther in a snowstorm. Good book. Haven't seen the movie. Josh's lyrics somehow reflect the continuous, unrelenting tension of the book. Love the song, by the way. Incredible lyrics. Pounding, infectuous rhythm. | |

Saw them last night in Seattle - finally with Neko. Neko pulled an audible and put this one on the set list (2nd night show - playing rarer tracks than normal, so glad we didn't miss this one). It blew the crowd away, even though they had her badly mixed (really shrill and squeaky at times). Also, it was amazing how well they've integrated Kathryn's supporting voice into these older songs. Incredible. Who knows what it means? Doesn't matter - from the inside - when it's playing - it is totally rational and so tight -- the louder the better! |

Home's home. There was nothing to put me in love with the good life I'm in league with the the gangs and the guns and the crime Makes me laugh - she's so sweet in interviews and on stage. Still, very cool passage. Such a fun song to sing along with - as was the whole album |

I'd pay anything to see her perform just this sequence, at full tilt -- knife/lion's jaws/sparrow/at last/needle has landed. One of my handful of ultimate favorites (love them all, but a few really tear out the heart). The dips in the voice at "my snowy eye" and "the haze I wished would never break" (never) just break me. From the beginning to the end, this is just a great song - showing the strengths of her voice, the emotion and the phrasing, on top of the tight, tight writing. Perfection. |

To echo others -- perfect closer for their shows. I've seen it twice -- the very slow, long build, a little mystical and detached -- then the crescendo and chorus -- in live show, he's speaking straight to the crowd - "I need you so much closer; so come on, come on" - by the end, Jason is pounding on the drums simultaneously with both hands and all of his might -- then it dies off, to the background tone. I don't know if they're still using it, but it was soooo cool. |
