I agree with The Smiths reference. Only, there's one little line that seems rather specific: "All those times when no one ever came to get me..." If the writer was referring to a girlfriend or buddy, he'd probably say "to pick me up". My first impression on hearing that one line was of a memory of a child waiting for a parent to pick them up who never shows. They are waiting there at the curb, listening to their walkman (or ipod, depending on your age), watching it get darker and colder, and wondering why they were forgotten again and how they should get home. And thank God they have their music, at least. This happened to me several times in Jr High school, and listening to this song brought it all back. |
