Faith No More – Midlife Crisis Lyrics 14 years ago
Patton said it was about Madonna particularly, but in general the title conveys the meaning entirely; it's the description of a midlife crisis. Grasping for straws to try to cling to the youth that you are realizing is slipping away from you.

Faith No More – Land Of Sunshine Lyrics 14 years ago
Patton has said that the majority of this song is a piecemeal collection of fortune cookies. The two questions in the "Do you feel sometimes that age is against you?" interlude are from a scientology questionnaire.

I don't think it's about scientology in particular, it's about, in general, people preying on those with low self-esteem by claiming they can "help you help yourself."

Faith No More – Jizzlobber Lyrics 14 years ago
To lobb something is to toss it, or in this case, fire it perhaps.

I think this song is about a victim of either rape or marital abuse. The masturbation theory seems like it would make sense given the title and all, but there are lines like "I'm trying so hard to act like nothing happened." It sounds like the person is blaming themselves for the abuse, which is not an uncommon occurence in this situation. "Spilt milk" is a sexual innuendo, as it "cruel words mounting and teasing."
The only line that points to masturbation to me is "bars in the womb"

Iron Maiden – The Duelists Lyrics 16 years ago
About a duel between duelists.
Duh.
Anyway, this is my least favorite song on Powerslave next to Return to The Village; go figure, with everyone praising it and all. It's ever-so-bland and vanilla-sounding(as opposed to Return to the Village sucking because it was embaressedly written.)

Iron Maiden – Flash Of The Blade Lyrics 16 years ago
Like many Maiden songs, very self-explanatory; The story of a swordfighter. It might reference a book or movie, as IM so often does, but I've never read it if it did.

Dream Theater – Beyond This Life Lyrics 16 years ago
A rather self-explanatory song that recounts the events of Victoria's murder from a newspaper, at least how everyone else thought it went down. An interesting little tidbit, you can see the paper on the back of the lyric booklet in fact.

Dream Theater – Home Lyrics 16 years ago
Victoria shows Nicholas the events leading up to her murder during this song.

It begins with The Sleeper(Julius) is caught up in drug abuse and gambling("Lines take me higher", 'Can't have it, this habit") and is struggling to get away from it. Victoria, formerly in love with Julius, had to reject him because of it, and The Miracle, Julius' brother, takes advantage of this opportunity to seduce Victoria and make her his own. Towards the end of the song, you can hear the events taking place where Julius is at(A casino), as well as The Miracle and Victoria(Making love). It ends with Nicholas coming to understand that these three people hold the secret to what Victoria is trying to awaken in his memories.

Ministry – Hero Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about how intense war seems to take the populace at first. We forget that the people we're killing are humans, and those that go over and slaughter our opponents are at first hailed as heroes... Then, all those people that stood beside you suddenly see what you have done, and turn around, calling you a monster. Note when he's talking about the "hero" doing his job, the chorus is accompanied by people cheering. But when he gets to "it's only heroes who pay", the cheers are gone.

The Axis Of Perdition – To Walk the Corridors of Hell Lyrics 16 years ago
Written from the view of Satan, or some other infernal being, that is encouraging mortals to continue to blindly follow god, and be consumed again and again into hell.

Nine Inch Nails – Ripe (With Decay) Lyrics 17 years ago
Like itsameac said, this is most definitly not a happy song. Strange, I've heard people describe Ripe With Decay as calming as well.... It's an instrumental, so the interpretation is kind of up in the air, really, but in my perspective:

This is the bottom of the whole rabbit hole, just like TDS' self-titled track. The acoustic guitar isn't upbeat int he slightest, but rather a very droning sound that gave off a foreboding sound. The background is full of what sounds like festering of insects, as well as something else that sounds a little like burning paper. The piano that comes in around halfway through the song is chaotic, going from high to low notes at rapid pace... And slowly, it fades into crickets chirping and flies buzzing.. Like there is nothing left.
But still it isn't the end. The song begins to reach back out of the silence, as if trying to bring itself back from the dead. Trent moans, the drums throb, and the plucky guitar from "The Big Come Down" returns.. But just as it begins to pick up intensity, it again dies, falling to just the guitar plucking, and then, again, nothing.
Basically, the song is an audio-based attempt to reach back out from the ultimate faliure the subject of The Fragile, but unlike in the beginning of the album, he can't manage to start over, and fades into the rot of oblivion.

Nine Inch Nails – The New Flesh Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about drug addiction. It, and Ten Miles High(Also very obviously about drug addiction) were both taken out of The Fragile. The New Flesh, going with The Fragile's theme of failed redemption, has the subject descending again into the pains of addiction. Even though they know it is wrong and will only destroy them after going through it once before,( "I've watched this scene a thousand times", "This is how it all begins) , they lie to themself that it won't be the same as before and once again begin to return to where they started("A new disguise", "Give it to me.. I can take it.")
Love the song. Sounds very creepy.

Nine Inch Nails – Pilgrimage Lyrics 17 years ago
This is the yang to La Mer's ying. A frightening, chaotic marching bad rising out of hell, the total opposite of the ethereal, almost childish La Mer.

Nine Inch Nails – The Wretched Lyrics 17 years ago
The entire left side of The Frail sounds as if someone is recovering slowly from the hellish descent they suffered in the past, and have come across someone just like them. The Wretched makes me think of one of those Alcoholics-Anonymous-type groups: things just get more depressing as you are surrounded by people just as awful as you.
At one point in the song, it sounds as if he's trying to keep hope(You're finally free, and you could be...), he is suddenly cut off by static and the "it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to" comes back in, a demeaning chant that sounds like it's coming from someone who has experienced the same thing.

Nine Inch Nails – Piggy Lyrics 17 years ago
The narrarator of the song has come to the decision that the person he is talking to("Piggy") has hurt him, and is therefore meaningless to have anymore. And thus, he leaves them behind. This cumulinates in March of the Pigs, where he does this continuously to seemingly about everyone he knows.

Nine Inch Nails – Reptile Lyrics 17 years ago
The "reptile" just beneath her skin is likely an allusion to a snake(You can even hear what sounds like a rattlesnake in one part of the song), which biblically represents betrayal and deception. However, the way it sounds, he doesn't care anymore and has come to accept that this woman his going behind his back.
