The Knife – She's Having a Baby Lyrics | 14 years ago |
can't really tell who's having the baby, but this guy is pretty bummed out. His voice weighs a thousand pounds in this song. |
The Gaslight Anthem – 1930 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's about a tattoo to cover up another tattoo. Like one with his ex's name in it or something like that. |
K'naan – 15 Minutes Away Lyrics | 14 years ago |
you met him in sao paula A tourist with a dolla .... Two babies in a strolla |
K'naan – Somalia Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"to never know a simple day..." |
K'naan – Wavin' Flag Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I agree with mjavness, sorta like he's daydreaming and "then it goes back" to reality. |
K'naan – ABC's Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think it's more about the fact that there's not much of an education system in Somalia right now. |
The Gaslight Anthem – Even Cowgirls Get the Blues Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Even Cowgirls get the Blues is a book by Tom Robbins. read it. it's good. I can't really remember the names of the characters but the book was about a bunch of girls who ran a girls only ranch. |
R.E.M. – The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I always thought the girl was in a coma or at least very sick and sleeping a lot. He's staying in a motel, why i can't really say. Maybe they sold the house to pay for medical bills, maybe they split up and he moved out, w/e. The sleeping in the phone booth part is obvious, and I'm pretty sure the sidewinder is the phone cord. The reference to laying a patch is about operators, picture the 50's images of women plugging in phone cords...maybe he's lonely and wants to talk to anybody, even an operator. The "cat in the hat..." part is a dream, he's passed out in the phone booth and the phone is off the hook (sidewinder sleeps on his back). The rest you can figure out. |
Ben Sollee – Panning For Gold Lyrics | 15 years ago |
maybe about how God has become outdated and therefor less relevant? |
Ben Sollee – Bend Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Are you strong enough to bend to me means having the true strength to appear weak. similar theme carries through "it's not impossible". Sometimes it's harder to compromise...something like that. |
Ben Sollee – Bury Me With My Car Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the line is "hunkered down honda" pretty simple meaning, Americans love their cars. |
Arkells – No Champagne Socialist Lyrics | 15 years ago |
good band, good song. The meaning is pretty clear from the lyrics corrected: Let the record show It's 1964, in the city of New York take the train to Queens And meet a Jewish family He's the youngest boy of three his brothers have left home And he's on the same rope Just a credit shy of a diploma But he wants to represent The struggling-with-rent But he can't live on both sides of the fence So he continues to insist that he's no champagne socialist And he's not coming back After studying the facts He knows of all the problems of the past And he's quick to concede That in order to proceed We can't just keep on preaching what we need To become a working man (one of them) Is to live and work with them And this is something you can't pretend So he continues to insist that he's no champagne socialist (That he's no champagne socialist) (He's no champagne socialist) |
Neil Young – Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Kinda seems like its about being famous. Everyone asks him what its like and is excited about it, but he just wants to chill back home. It's off his second album, that's usually when artists get tired of stardum. |
Millencolin – Devil Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
boule is a game involving balls, google it if you need to know more Miat i'm guessing is his friends name T.O is an abbreviation for Toronto (a city in Canada), I'm not sure about the other two cities but they were pretty popular in T.O early in their careers. |
Attack In Black – If All I Thought Were True Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it should be "who could pretend?" for the first chorus, and contend for the second. As far as meaning goes...your guess is as good as mine. |
Shotgun Rules – Thank you Gravity Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is the first shotgun rules song I heard too. The lyrics aren't super hard to figure out, longtimesunshine pretty much nailed it. I'd like to see them perform this song live, which despite having been to many shows hasn't happened yet, maybe never will. |
Illscarlett – NTF Lyrics | 16 years ago |
lyric are "I watched all of the ways the WERE nothing like you" also one of my favorites |
The Tragically Hip – As Makeshift As We Are Lyrics | 17 years ago |
war makes sense, written from the point of view of a soldier. who's to say for sure with gord's cryptic lyrics, but that's what's great about the hip's lyrics. |
The Tragically Hip – If New Orleans Is Beat Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I get a bit of that downfall of society/nature vibe too, it's all over this album. I just think that this song, as with new orleans is sinking is very eerie to listen to after katrina, I wonder if they'll write a post-katrina new orleans song. |
The Tragically Hip – It Can't Be Nashville Every Night Lyrics | 17 years ago |
where did you hear it's about toby? I don't get that from the lyrics...seems to be about country music in general though |
Kenny Rogers – Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Having seen the big lebowski I can say with certainty that this song is obviously about vietnam...everything traces back to 'nam lol...jk wicked song though, I never knew kenny rogers sang songs like this, I'd like to hear more of the same, any suggestions? |
NOFX – Wolves In Wolves' Clothing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
All great empires eventually fall, and america is no exception. I agree with gwillawilla that the song is being sung from the perspective of the ruling elites (oligarchy), not nofx. Good song for a good album, not their best but I think it's still really good. I don't really get the Terry Gilliam line though...what's he getting at??? all the other things are bad (animal farm pigs, marrie antoinette, etc.) but his movies are good imho. |
The Tragically Hip – Montreal Lyrics | 17 years ago |
you can hear the last part of this song during "courage" from live between us. |
Rancid – Detroit Lyrics | 17 years ago |
didn't know what time it was when the sun went down Detroit, Michigan on the bus downtown Last I was fighting all in the street But tonight I got a girl next to me in this cold world She brings me heat I gotta good feeling 'bout a bad city tonight I gotta good feeling everything's gonna be alright Some run, some fight gotta good feeling 'bout a bad city tonight Detained in legal custody spent the night in jail With a drunken priest and a hooker $500 bail nobody knew ?????? who was standing in the street like that I hit the ground to make a sound I gotta good feeling 'bout a bad city tonight I gotta good feeling everything's gonna be alright Some run, some fight gotta good feeling 'bout a bad city tonight Bus dropped me off and I had to cough I couldn't breath cuz I got ripped off I couldn't realize by being satisfied cuz it runs so thin And that's why I'm pissed off She had the money, I had the time She had the champagne, I had the cisco wine She said "do you want to come, cause you better hurry or there'll be hell to pay That's how it goes...why can't ppl post the correct lyrics or don't bother fuck. |
Rancid – Adina Lyrics | 17 years ago |
one of the first rancid songs I ever heard, still love it. I think they're best songs are one's about people down on their luck. |
Rancid – Moron Bros. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I've also heard it's about green day, if so that's what they get for selling out. |
Rancid – It's Quite Alright Lyrics | 17 years ago |
hey thanks for the correction plaidcheerios, this song makes a lot more sense now. |
Hostage Life – This Song Was Written By a Committee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
obviously this song is about the music industry and how fake it all is. My favorite line is "we're not trying to make art, we're makin a living" that about sums it all up. |
Hostage Life – We Will Make You Crawl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
what better way to start a punk album then to insult your fans lol |
Pearl Jam – Do the Evolution Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I always thought he said "casino" not "consider" appetite...referring to the fact that letting "indians" run casinos is supposed to make up for the fact that we pretty much eliminated their entire race and culture. |
Rancid – Ivory Coast Lyrics | 17 years ago |
happened on new years eve 2002 as far as I can tell. they pushed back the curfew from 7 to midnight (not really 24h) so people could celebrate Saint Sylvester. |
Rancid – Blackhawk Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
first off I like the spelling of interFEAR by noschoolspirit. secondly, g2: the criticism put forth here is not about the US (UN technically) getting involved but their lack of commitment. IMHO that's where the US fucked up, if you're gonna do something do it right or stay the fuck out...that's just me. |
Counting Crows – Perfect Blue Buildings Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm with sourbeville, I always got a schizo vibe from this song. "keep myself away from me". There's lots going on though, depression's pretty obvious, some kind of substance abuse is also likely. Isolations another big theme. The imagery is interesting and sets a good mood, I dunno if there is any specific meaning behind the "perfect blue buildings" or "green apple sea", they could be real or not. For me they just add that element of mystery that I like to find in lyrics. |
NOFX – Party Enema Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Incans used to give themselves alcoholic enemas after they could no longer hold their liquor down the normal way, just thought I'd throw it out there. |
NOFX – Pods And Gods Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I like the comparison between faith in christ and believing in aliens, although it's pretty offensive to both kinds of believers he is just pointing out the fact they both believe in something they've never really seen. I also like the message that we should focus more on life on earth than what's going on up above. |
NOFX – Getting High On The Down Low Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think jeff's right, listening to some nofx songs it seems like fat mike's been made to walk the line, but in this song he tells that he can't ( or won't). |
NOFX – I'm Going to Hell For This One Lyrics | 17 years ago |
jesus wasn't white or black, most scholars conclude that he looked similar to a modern day semitic person (i.e. someone from the middle east). I love this song and I don't think mike's going to hell for this one, he's merely pointing out facts about the lies that christianity tells about the life of jesus and how some "christians" profit from them (esp. mel) |
NOFX – Golden Boys Lyrics | 17 years ago |
interesting thought combatboots, and it's true that the semetic religions all have the same origin (judaism and islam had a common origin, and christianity branched off from judaism). I think the song is about all the wars that have been waged in the name of god, but it's kinda vague. |
NOFX – Don't Drink And Drive Lyrics | 17 years ago |
actually the figures do lie, anyone who knows anything about statistics could see that the comparison doesn't make any sense: The "sober team" is made up of a lot more people than the drunk team, therefore they cause proportionally more accidents than sober people. If people stopped drinking and driving then 100% would be not alcohol related. However, it's true that you don't have to be drunk to be a bad driver, there's plenty of sober people out there who suck too. |
NOFX – All Outta Angst Lyrics | 17 years ago |
naytch nailed it. Also, I don't think that he's content with how the US is, just that he's tired of complaining about it over and over again when there are worse places to live. Though I don't think pakistan or mongolia were the best choices since I could think of worse places but that's beside the point. |
NOFX – Eat The Meek Lyrics | 17 years ago |
thefooligan is right, the song's all about how capitalism sucks and how the media and the government (read: the factory) control our lives. |
