Rosanne Cash – September When It Comes Lyrics 17 years ago
This song has an unintended poignancy because Johnny died in September.

To me the song is about how our connections to one another become stronger later in our lives; how Rosanne, as a middle-aged woman, related to her father differently than she did as a child, and how he related to people differently as he approached the end of his life.

"When the shadows lengthen
And burn away the past
They will fly me like an angel
To a place where I can rest
When this begins, I'll let you in
September when it comes"

There is a touch of regret in this verse, as it seems to be talking about how we take relationships for granted and don't always get close to those we love until we are suddenly faced with our own mortality.

Johnny Cash – Meet Me In Heaven Lyrics 17 years ago
To add to the above, I saw an interview where Johnny recalled that as Jack was dying, he told his mother he could see heaven and said, "Will you meet me in Heaven someday?"

John Prine – Come Back to Us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about losing touch with someone you used to be close to because they've changed. In this case, it seems like "Barbara" is trying to find herself, and that's why she's drifted away from the people she used to know.

"Don't you know her when you see her?
She grew up in your backyard"

This line has two meanings to me. It's referring to Barbara, and how she's someone he's known all his life but still doesn't recognize her, but I think it's also saying to the listener, "You know the kind of person I'm talking about." I think everyone has a Barbara Lewis in their life, someone who changed so much that it's hard to believe they're the same person.
